On August 31, friends and Republicans gathered to salute and say thank you to Governor Barbour for eight years of great leadership in our state. His legacy started in 1968 working on then presidential candidate Richard Nixons campaign. He worked for President Ronald Reagan as his director of the White House Office of Political Affairs in the 80s and then served in the Republican leadership in the nation as party chairman.
Over the last eight years our state has endured many crises (Katrina is etched on all our minds). Governor Barbour has led us through tough times and spurred us to greater heights. Mississippi is a better state today because of Governor Barbour.
It was a great honor to help celebrate his legacy of Republican leadership, he said tonight, America wants leaders with pure hearts, who want to serve because of people and not self.
