I thought that at first also but then wondered if it gives the candidates time to formulate a response unless they get a transcript of Obama’s speech ahead of time.

Thanks for that info. I didn’t know he’d written a book and frankly hadn’t even seen or heard of him until about a month or so ago. I’ll add that to my library list.
I’m getting on this thread late, so by now, of course we all know that Boehner did indeed “find his spine” and the WH backed off, changing it to the next night, which is hilarious - BHO now goes up against NFL’s opening game. Guess which one will get the highest ratings? :-))))))
I think he could’ve done it at almost any other time that wouldn’t conflict with the GOP debate, and in many ways I wish that either he would’ve moved it to earlier that day or that the debate could’ve be moved to later, because either way the candidates would have a great opportunity to really rip BHO’s trifling rhetoric apart, after his speech, in their debate.
Unfortunately, we can all add, and we see that "Yes" wins.
