SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego police say a boy throwing rocks at vehicles was struck in the abdomen by a crossbow bolt fired by a passenger in small sport utility vehicle.
Officer Dino Delimitros says the boy and a friend were throwing rocks in the Linda Vista neighborhood Monday afternoon when a passenger in a black Toyota RAV4 pulled out a crossbow and fired.

Already there. Banned in MA due to ONE incident.
If someone had pulled over and spanked this little brat they person who did so would no doubt be arrested and sent to jail.

You forgot to mention a possible confrontation with a parent INDIGNANT at the notion that their LITTLE ANGEL would do such a thing.
Kid would be wearing an “innocent” pout the whole time.
I was on an operation in Africa in 1984. We were drinking beer in a hotel bar with some Legionnaires. One guy, a Brit, showed me a copy of “Soldier of Fortune” magazine with an advert for some top of the line crossbows. He told me he wanted me to order 30 of them for his platoon. I told him I couldn’t do it because of my delicate position and besides, I didn’t have an arms dealers license. He said he didn’t care and he would see me the following week with the cash. He wanted me to change almost $1000 in CFA (French West African currency). Fortunately, I rotated out of there before our next meeting. Don’t want to get on those boys’ wrong side.
Not to say that I condone shooting kids with arrows...exactly, BUT I bet that’s one little punk who won’t be throwing rocks at cars again any time soon.
I suspect that it was one of those one handed pistol-type crossbows.
I also suspect that the driver’s vehicle had been hit by one of those rocks the kids were throwing, possibly cracking a window, and he (driver) decided to get some payback.
I’m not condoning this, but I think I can safely say that it is a sign of the times. I also suspect it’s going to happen with increasing frequency as people realize that they are the only ones who can safely protect their loved ones and valuables.
One thing for sure. This kid is not going to be chucking rocks at any cars again soon.
It is only because it was a gut shot.
I bet they never catch the cross-bow guy, they deal damage almost as well as a hand gun but no one ever hears them go off ... which is what usually leads to someone witnessing a shooter and their eventual capture.
Makes me wonder what they were doing driving around with a cross-bow in their front seat to begin with. Hunting?
From what I gather the shooter probably did not have a hunting broadhead installed on the bolt. Otherwise I think the rock thrower would have bled out.
But my knowledge is limited to regular bows and this was back when nobody even used a release(I’m talkin’ 25 years ago).
Lucky me, the thing hit my right-side A-pillar, just between the windshield and side window. I mashed the throttle to the floor and hit the nearest u-turn, headed back to teach the boy the error of his ways. Too late, he'd hit another car that had been following me. That driver just leapt out on the spot and could be seen already a block away, chasing the kid and waving a tire iron. I often wonder if that kid made it home alive.
I'm sure it will be several weeks before his abdominal muscles are in any condition to allow him to throw anything.
;-)
The little bas&&@ will probably be back out there next month with his own crossbow
‘Hunting’ the asshat who hit his car with a rock. maybe?
Cool features of a cross bow for this kind of operation vs. a firearm:
1) almost entirely silent;
2) no traceable ballistic evidence;
3) relatively short range so bystanders are less likely to be hit; and
4) no spent cartridge cases.
My congrats to the shooter. May he have much good hunting and hit the vital parts next time.

Tough neighborhood. Glad to me a small-town dweller.
Take out one perp and the other flees.

Kids always through rocks. I did ... now don’t lie.. of course you did. They didn’t deserve to be arrowed by some creep with a crossbow. What they needed was some good old parental dispensing of punishment... their rear end paddled and restriction for a few months etc. However, this is a different society and people are starting to cheer harming kids. I had a kid hit my car with a rock and I didn’t try and kill him. Sheesh people. Get real.
“That driver just leapt out on the spot and could be seen already a block away, chasing the kid and waving a tire iron.”
That’s exactly the same way I was cured of the habit of throwing snowballs at cars at the age of 13 or so. If we hadn’t been on home turf on a hillside covered in deep snow, I do believe he might have caught us.
Throwing anything at a car, especially a rock that could go through the window, is life threatening. The crossbowman may get off for self defense if he can convince the jury he ws in fear the kid would throw another.
A few years back in St. Louis, a woman driving home late from work had a rock thrown through her windshield (thrown off an overpass), and it killed her. I think she was 23 or 24, and was the mother of a very young child.
