"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

BTW, I got an email back from Ed Walker last week. NPR dumped out of the show to promote Obama’s greatness on Libya. Of course, the propagandists will probably have no comment for what is happening there now...

Vision, we were wondering how you are after the storm moved through. I'm glad to see you're here!
I got a reply back from WAMU last week, too, and the girl said they were going to RE-RUN last week's show this week. I wish they would not do that, but this lineup may not be the correct one. I also wanted to hear the mystery shows!
Anyway, SteelYourFaith asked me to post this for him today:
-----------------------
Thanx again, Vision ! August 28, 2011
- 7:00 p.m. Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar 6/26/60 The Wholly Unexpected Matter Matter #696 Bob Bailey, Virginia Gregg (stewardess Claire), Shirley Mitchell (Marian), Larry Dobkin (Pat McCracken), Sam Edwards (Sahara Casino cashier), Barney Phillips (Buster Favor), Edgar Barrier (Franklin J. Meloy) ; Writer/Producer/Director - Jack Johnstone; Announcer - John Wald ; Expense Account Total = You add it up, Pat. Afterall, youre paying for it. ; Next week, a story called the Wholly Unexpected Matter, and believe me, the title fits. It involves a wild trip across the country in search of a killer - a killer who just happens to be looking for me - who apparently knows more about my plans and where I am going than I do myself - all of which leads to a really unexpected twist at the end of the yarn. I think youll like this one, like it a lot. So, join us, wont you? An escaped convict swearing to kill Johnny, or a fishing trip? Johnny is on his way to Lake Mojave Resort for some fishing, with Pat McCracken tagging along. Pat is suspicious of a familiar looking man with a facial scar who seems to be following them on the plane. Could it be the recently escaped Danny Scarface Maloney, who swore revenge on Johnny for sending him up three years ago in the Morley Warehouse arson case? At the Lake Mojave Resort Buster Favor says that the only other guest is Franklin J. Meloy, who has a scar. Johnny and Pat go out on the Lake fishing. They see a man with a metallic object in the distance. Johnny sneaks up on him. He is holding blue steel binoculars. He is Franklin J. Meloy, friend of Claire the stewardess and all he wants is to learn Johnnys favorite fishing spots for lunker bass on the Lake. CBS Radio Network, commercials for Pepsi, No-Doz, Fritos Corn Chips (AFRS) (23:18)
- 7:30 p.m.Dragnet 8/4/49 Benny Trounsel Program #9 Jack Webb (Joe Friday), Barton Yarborough (Ben Romero), Raymond Burr (Chief Ed Backstrand) ; Writer - James Moser ; NBC ; sustained ; Sergeants Friday and Romero are working out of narcotics detail. Drugs have been stolen at hospitals. A small-time narcotics user named Benny Trounsel has been beaten to death shortly after tipping the cops to a new narcotics ring in town. (29:28)

The weather turns violent. A blizzard strikes. Matt sees a cabin and seeks shelter. The men inside, Hack and Alvie, are on the run for murder and attempted robbery and take Matt prisoner. Also inside is Belle, whose father was killed 35 days ago by Hack and Alvie when they took over the cabin, and who has been a terrorized prisoner. With Belles help Matt is able to kill Hack and Alvie. (29:46)
- 8:30 p.m. The Phil Harris & Alice Faye Show 11/21/48 Health Food Diet Episode #8 Phil Harris & Alice Faye, Jeanine Roos (Little Alice), Anne Whitfield (Phyllis), Robert North (Willie Faye), Elliot Lewis (Frankie Remley), Walter Tetley (Julius Abbrusio), Gale Gordon ; Producer/ Director - Paul Phillips ; Writers - Ray Singer & Dick Chevillat ; Music - Walter Scharf and his Orchestra ; Announcer - Bill Forman ; Sponsor - Rexall ; NBC ; Alice thinks she is getting fat and has the whole family on Doctor Crails Healthfood diet. They are complaining. Frankie comes up with the idea of settiung the scales back. Alice weighs herself at 32.75 pounds. Shbe realizes that she is being tricked so she goes out to buy another months supply of Doctor Crails Healthfood. (29:32)

Hey Gina, they're rerunning the show? Is NPR capable of making a good decision? GOOD GRIEF. Lame socialists. I'm emailing them now. A great lux last week and the clock was also good.
It starting raining here about noon yesterday and got heavy in the early evening. All was well until I realized there was a leak in the basement door and that took the fun out of the storm. Kind of a long night..loud bangs...but the power didn't go out so the sump pumps did their thing. I've got some damage to a climbing vine and shrub but all else is ok. Some family down in VA are still out of power and they got hit worse.

Well, that does take the fun out of it! Darned leakage! At least you didn’t lose power, which is pretty amazing.
Here is the reply I got from WAMU:
“Thanks for your email. WAMU 88.5 faces unique challenges in serving the community that lives in the nation’s capital - ours is probably the most engaged and news savvy audience in the country. As such, national and international breaking news is central to our mission. When the story about regime change in Libya broke dramatically on Sunday, we had an obligation to bring the rapidly changing events to our audience immediately.
That said, we know that The Big Broadcast is a beloved Sunday night tradition for our listeners; it is appointment listening for many. We will repeat last Sunday’s broadcast in its entirety this Sunday evening, August 28, beginning at 7 p.m., as usual. Additionally, you can listen to last Sunday night’s program online at http://wamu.org/programs/bb.
Thank you for taking the time to write to us, and for your loyal listening.
Best,
Kay Summers
Director of Marketing and Communications

We’re fine, Vision, after working our tails off installing a sprinkler system and zoysia sod in a customer’s yard this past week. We were on a 5-day deadline, and it was all we could do to get the job 99 percent done!
We are worn out from swinging a pick axe chopping a massive number of tree roots in that yard. We’re are sunkissed, too! As “they” say, what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. :-)

HA!! Conan is a funny guy.
"Don't be afraid to fail." Well now I'm here to tell you that, though you should not fear failure, you should do your very best to avoid it. Nietzsche famously said "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." But what he failed to stress is that it almost kills you. Disappointment stings and, for driven, successful people like yourselves it is disorienting. What Nietzsche should have said is "Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you watch a lot of Cartoon Network and drink mid-price Chardonnay at 11 in the morning."
What a hoot!
