THESSALONIKI – It took an undercover operation, but Greek police have blown a hole in a ring of alleged crooks who had cornered the doughnut market in a beach resort.

It started with complaints that two Bulgarian men and a former Greek wrestling champion were using violence to choke off the trade by other doughnut vendors on Paliouri beach in the Halkidiki peninsula near Thessaloniki.

So an undercover officer posed as a doughnut seller, police said Tuesday, and he was attacked, leading to the arrest of the three aggressive doughnut sellers.

I sense a movie opportunity here.

"Lord of the Doughnut Rings."

"Let the Lord of the Dark Chocolate Covered Doughnut come forth and let justice be done upon him."

I love doughnuts.

But if I had the good fortune to be in Greece while hankering for a snack, doughnuts would noty make my list.

A hunk of that bread with some olive oil, salt and pepper.

Maybe some saganaki.

Sweets? Doesn’t get sweeter than baklava.

This is straight from a Joseph Heller novel.
“Catch 22” when the ‘boyz’ cornered the market on eggs and were selling them for 3c less than they bought them for, claiming they were making a profit because they were a syndicate.
When Milo Miderbender explains it, it actually makes sense - well, in the broad sense of the word.

Yeah, but you'd have to tour with Courtney Love's old band.
