Because going back to the 60's,70's,and 80's there was good music like the Rolling Stones,The Beatles,Buffalo Springfield,Iron Maiden,Led Zeppelin and such.
Compared to modern music which seems to be mostly about image over whether they can play. I'll take "Stairway to Heaven" over Lady Gaga any day.
Because it seems they have turned the whole music industry into a beauty contest and not if a person can play a instrument like bass, guitar, drums,or such.
I tend to agree.
Heard “Highway Star” yesterday. Sounded as fresh as ever.
According to the conventions I follow, Modern music started in the early 20th century. Schoenberg, Stravinsky, guys like that.
For you it’s today’s rock. Whatever.
And Gaga’s one of the better artists out there today. Heaven help us.
Good music is everywhere today if you do just a bit of hunting and don’t just absorb what TV and radio are handing you. Lazy people deserve what they get.
No melody. All there is is beat... WAY better in the 70’s and 80’s... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyy_GhA9S9k
You forgot Pink Floyd. How could you? Apologize and I may forgive you.
Yeah,Pink Floyd rules too. \m/
Growing up in the late 60s, 70s, and 80s, I can’t help but come to the conclusion you both missed on what was the most musical group then.
Every time I listen to Jethro Tull, I hear something new, and am amazed by the layers...
They didn’t do alot as far as sonic exploration like Floyd or Yes or others, but their music, their ballads, truly timeless stuff!
Exhibit A is Around My Head by Cage the Elephant. That "Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ah Ah Ah Ah Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ah Ah Ah Ah" is the epitome of a hook. It makes me feel right at home.
That’s just swell. (teasing)
LOL! You left out the 90's and the all important 2000's.
Get off my lawn!!!!

Agree
Well, I’m just a youngin’. (41) My generation listened to Van Halen, The Police, Rush, etc. but Pink Floyd is my all-time favorite. I saw them twice but never with Roger Waters :(
I do like Jethro Tull.
Good call, dr_lew! What I was trying to say in post above is that there is GREAT music all around. You just have to look a little further than the antiquated “delivery channels” you used in the ‘60s ‘70s and ‘80s.
Ok. You’re forgiven. Just don’t let it happen again. ;p
Yeah, this is nonsense.
