VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) A Maltese dog that disappeared more than a year ago after a fatal car crash in New Mexico has been returned to surviving family members in Michigan.
The crash in June last year killed Gary Benson and his daughter, Emily. Afterward, his wife and four surviving children searched unsuccessfully for the family pet named Caesar.

This should ease their sadness a little. There's an AP photo of Caesar and one of his humans at the link.

where do u think he was for the year?
To: Wally_Kalbacken
I’m pretty sure such a short-legged dog would have to have hitchhiked, at best...

Glad the dog was microchipped, otherwise he would not have been reunited with the family.

He was returned to his owners via the Pilots N Paws program and and came through Sundance Airpark in Oklahoma City were I hang out with other pilots in the afternoons.

Very cool! Strange that the story didn’t mention that. Seems like it would be a good thing to promote.

Yes Pilots N Paws does a great service. A friend of mine has transported several dogs. I don’t know how the dog in the story got to Oklahoma City, but a woman brought it to our airport and a couple from Kansas City flew in and were to take it there to be picked up by another pilot.
The couple was on a trip to Dallas and back anyway so it was not a big deal for them to stop in Oklahoma City. I guess the organization tries to coordinate with planned trips.
The woman told us the story while she was waiting.

Nice, bittersweet story. Thanks. Godspeed to them all.
