I heard a story this morning that Jani hated that song, and that it wasn’t even going to be on the album, until the record company told Warrant they didn’t hear a single, so he quickly wrote the song, and the band forever became linked to it.
Can’t say I blame him for feeling that way.
Oddly, the song I remember them most for was “Heaven”. I was a teenage girl, so it’s one of those songs that always gave me butterflies.
He said that the kind of music he really wanted to write was more like “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, itself a great song, but not as commercially viable, although it was also a hit.
He did eventually admit that he liked what Cherry Pie did for his success.
I know people from Akron (my hometown) who knew him personally, and most agree that he was a nice, but troubled, guy.
