The LWRC International REPR (Rapid Engagement Precision Rifle) comes to us from requests by our war fighters.
Specifically, when our armed forces members are whacking IED insertion teams, they need more shots, faster than what a bolt-action rifle can deliver. And in the wide open of Afghanistan, you also need reach. So the push is on for a semi-auto .308 rifle with durability and accuracy. That the services cant stop tripping over their own feet in selecting one doesnt mean that we have to do without.
LWRC has not just one but four: 12-, 16-, 18- and 20-inch barrel versions. I had an opportunity to put the 20-inch version through its paces, and I have to tell you, I really liked it.
The REPR is a scaled-up AR-15 (which was a scaled-down AR-10) but there are parts in common, and accessories galore meant for your 5.56 will fit the 7.62 REPR. The controls and exterior features are all instantly recognizable and familiar to the 5.56 shooter.
Well, most of them are. Where the 5.56 has a charging handle on the rear of the upper receiver, the REPR has a charging handle on the left side. It is non-reciprocating, so it wont move when you shoot. It has a large knob, and if you press in on the knob (toward the rifle interior), it engages the charging handle, and you can then use it as a forward assist. When you let go, the spring-loaded knob pops back out, ending its short tenure as an assistant.
There are also extra levers on the exterior. There are two bolt-release levers, one on each side, so you can use either hand to press the button.

The cost is ?
Are you nuts, crazy or just plain friggin stupid? Bragging on FR about your ammo stock on hand is the greatest way I know to get pushed to the top of the list when the ATF or whomever is ordered to go and get it. Are you equipped to handle a squad of Marines with a Cobra Gunship in the air as their backup?
What’s it gonna take to get you old farts to quit bragging?
Surplus Argentinian and Spanish 7.62x51 NATO was once about $0.15 per round. Berdan, and corrosive.
The best Austrian Hirtenberger and German Bundeswehr surplus 7.62x51mm was $0.25/round back in the mid-90s. South African was about the same in the late ‘90s.
6.5 bullets aren’t exactly uncommon, lot’s of different cartridges use them. You can form 6.5Grendel brass from 220 Russian, 7.62x39, or 6mm PPC.
Sorry I didn't know we were having a conversation concerning the historical prices of ammo.
It seems like the absolute best cartridge for the m16/m4 without question. I don’t see any downside.
I do think that 6.5 Grendel has a better chance of catching on than .50 Beowulf does.
It’s available meaning you could go out and buy some right now. It’s more expensive than 5.56 and .308 but not a lot more expensive. Considering the cost of ammo these days the extra couple of pennies per round just isn’t a big deal.
Why would we want better when we can have more expensive!
The .50Beowulf is just a fun round.
I could see how it would make some difference, especially if there was a little wind blowing. The story doesn’t give us any specifics about the range conditions, whether or not the barrel was hot or cold, etc.
Thought about that too. That’s just a lot of change.
Maybe he got lazy eyed on the other and just plinked.
Made in Turkey, huh? Wonder what the quality is like?
Tromix is doing mods to them.
If Tromix is working on them they must be pretty good.
$3495, (plus tax, tag and title.)
Can you imagine some methed-out doper taking that .50 round in the chest?
AMF
I really like those Tromix mods!
What’s wrong with the SR-25?
Nothing. That's a fine weapon.
Gas operated. Slightly longer barrel. More accurate.
