Let Bert and Ernie get married?
I have to admit that the very thought of it brought a sort of Monty Pythonesque grin to my face when I read this line in a blog. But I followed the links to a petition on change.org that is calling for PBS and Sesame Street to script a wedding between those two lovable characters, Bert and Ernie.
Now, honestly, I don’t have a clue if these characters were ever meant to be “gay,” but there is a very positive method to the apparent madness of the petition. It’s about teaching tolerance, and saving the lives of LGBT children.
Here is what the petition says:
Let Bert & Ernie Get Married On Sesame Street
In this horrific age of LGBT kids taking their own lives, they need to know that they ARE BEAUTIFUL and their lives are worth living. Aside from those that are committing suicide, the bullies that facilitate these tragedies need to learn that homophobia is NOT okay. They need to know that acceptance of their fellow human beings would indeed plant a seed of peace that will reverberate throughout the world. We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful by allowing Bert & Ernie to marry. It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different. Let Sesame Street and PBS Kids be a big part in saving many worthy lives.

Man are you in the wrong place.....
When I was a young boy on the playground I’d hear the word “fag” tossed around. I barely knew about sex between men and women at the time. I inquired what fag meant. It was explained to me and I had to ask how would it be possible for two men to have sex. I was told that they stuck their wieners in each others butts. I was immediately repulsed and disgusted at the thought of such sexual perversion. Nobody had taught me that I should consider this behavior to be disgusting or repulsive, I was born this way. I wish people could learn to be more tolerant and accept me for who I am.
If you really want to save lives, stop the people who are introducing kids to gay behaviors. They aren’t born that way. They are molded that way by their environment.
The gays I have known were introduced to that behavior at an early age. I had a friend in the second grade that was gay. He said his cousin introduced him to it. Second graders shouldn’t even be thinking about sex, but his cousin had already warped him.
