About 30,000 college students are getting a real-world lesson in economics after cash-hungry Michigan kicked them off of food stamps to save roughly $75 million per year.
Under the new rules, only single moms and students who work 20 hours a week may be able to keep their benefits, MyFoxDetroit.com reported.
College students generally aren't eligible for federal food assistance but nearly all of them in Michigan had qualified for the state's program under an exception for those participating in an employment and training program whose criteria included attending college, the Detroit News reported.

I love that statement!
Food stamps really has turned into a program where pretty much anyone who makes under a certain amount can get them. It doesn’t matter why the applicant makes less than a certain amount — even if they are able-bodied and just lazy — they can get food stamps. Its pure Socialism. No one should have to pay for food.
How about you tell the non-students to get a job also?

For that kind of money Michigan State should have been raising enough food to feed all the college students in Michigan. They do after all have a strong agricultural and forestry program.

Any college student who hasn’t lived on ramen noodles, homemade Hamburger Helper, and generic beer hasn’t paid his dues.
No wonder kids today are so damn soft and dependent.
I paid my way through college - with a job and a cheap state school.
My neice goes to WMU. She’s moved to a farmhouse in the country with a couple of friends. They’re rediscovering conservatism along with gardening.
I lived off of Ramen Noodles, cheap bologna, tomato soup, and mac and cheese for a few years, while “treating” myself to a petite sirloin once a month if it was on sale for $1.99/pound, where I'd buy 5 lbs. and freeze four pounds of the meat. I agree with your point about kids being soft and dependent because of policies such as this one in Michigan, too.

If you can’t afford FOOD, maybe you can’t really afford college.
I don’t know but I was just at a gas station and you know the price of all the goodies there is twice what a normal store charges and a young man had two sacks of snack-type food and charged it with an EBT card...disgusting.
I have been broke. I mean, really broke. It never, ever occurred to me to try and get food stamps. Is there no shame anymore?
I had a job and lived ob ramon noodles and potatoes when I was in college.
It is worse than that. It is cloward and piven, overwhelm and break the system. Those two were truly demented.
