It's the fear of snakes, and the phobia is quite common. Something about the scaly, slithering, legless creatures makes us want to run away or go into attack mode with a shovel.
Texas has more varieties of snakes than any other state, according to Houston Zoo herpetology curator Stan Mays, who writes a blog about reptiles. More than 110 species and subspecies are native to Texas.

Nice garter snake.
I love snakes - the kind without legs that is. Beautiful and graceful and colorfull.
Spiders are kind of creepy.
They paralyze their victims, then suck their lifebood out of the living bodies - sort of like liberal politicians.
I have pictures of myself at four or five holding snakes as long as I was tall. My reaction as a child was always, “Oh, wow, a snake. How can I catch it?”
I’ve got lots of garter snakes here. They’re practically friendly compared to the water snakes. I don’t pick up the water snakes because they’re aggressive.
Here is a video of the largest snake ever found it is dead tho.

Uh oh. That cobra sure has stepped, uh, slithered into it. Big time!
You owe me a new keyboard and a refill of coffee!
Dude....I just crapped all over myself...LOL! Bad FReeper...bad!

We got hoop snakes that roll down the road biting everyone they see so you liberals stay where you are.

Deadly. Black on yellow - kill a fellow.
Water snakes are nasty. Never got one to tame down. Most Garter snakes are pretty docile, or, they bite do so only when first caught.
Rat Snakes make the best pets of all North American snakes in m opinion, especially corn snakes.

Red on yellow will kill a fellow, but red on black is a friend of Jack. ...
Right. But only in North America. Don’t try that trick in SOuth or Central America. It doesn’t work there.
