Maybe XFCE is a better idea.I am running Xubuntu 11.04 with XFCE and love it. I started using XFCE when Redhat 8.0 came out and it has been my preference ever since then. Gnome is bloated but the standard. I don't need all the bells, buzzers, whistles and lights. (have used linux since ~1997)

I agree with Texas--I use XFCE exclusively now on a SandyBridge i7 laptop.
While I could run any desktop I want (except for Gnome 3.0 it seems :) ), I prefer the look, layout, and functionality of XFCE.

FVWM for me. XFCE on kids and better half’s dual boot machines, but they prefer Windows.
