Just because you couldn't figure it out doesn't make it alpha quality. I can figure out, but why should I spend all the time to do it? I don't have an IT department to dump it on. Instead of alpha, perhaps it should be called PITA quality.

I haven’t tried Unity. Can’t say one or the other.
What IIRC i’ve read is that unity is not based on GNome 3. It’s 2.32+.
And Unity is Ubuntu only.
