The 13-episode fifth season that was ordered last year, which includes a holiday special, is going to be the final season of Eureka.
Heres a statement from Syfy:
After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best weve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end.
We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.

At least Battlestar Galactica was permitted to draw to it’s logical conclusion.
I missed her in that. She’s in “Game of Thrones” on HBO, though!
Hi, tlb and company:
‘Eureka’ was great for three seasons. The whole going back in time fourth season plot line should never have been explored. Resulting in very little beside providing grist for future episodes.
Overall, ‘Eureka’ was one of Sy~Fy’s unsung heroes. Sporting a more than decent cast and special effects that kept the series afloat through later bouts of lazy repetitive writing.
I’ll miss the gap in weekly viewing air-time, but those seasons I admire most, I have on DVD.
Jack.
I doubt ratings were quite so important, in the immediate, since the owners hardly seem to have been fair in rolling out the latest season in the target demographic's vacation calendar.
It's possible the market wiped out some investment income behind the show, as well, yesterday.
I hope this isn't a decision to abandon their target demographic in favor of the pewter dragon trailer trash they seem increasingly devoted to.
Fans, I know how you feel. I still haven't forgiven NBC for cancelling Star Trek (TOS, a second time), in the middle of Season Three, in 1969.
More rasslin’ shows planned to replace it then?
>Why not get rid of Ghost Watchers instead? Hour after hour of Did you see that?
Because that show is cheap as dirt to produce. You don’t need sets, special effects, writers, or even real actors. Something like Eureka has all those expensive things.
There’s a reason SyFy changed their name and upped their quantity of utter cheese programming, it was to save money.
They have a really pathetic selection of original series now, especially with offing Eureka.
Tried watching season one. Didn’t like it. I do actually like “Falling Skies,” which has regular conservative messages that sometimes are quite up front.
Ain’t it the truth. We used to watch SyFi a lot. The original Stargate was an excellent show but none of the spin offs were great.
As for Falling Skies, I abandoned it after 4 shows as being draggy and too soppy at times, but I caught the last 3 episodes and they weren’t bad at all. If it’s renewed, I might watch it again.
It’s a real shame that Firefly had such a stupid name and was on prime stations and not cable. A show that good would have survived forever on cable.
A bad name can kill you, as FX found out when the great show Terriers (with probably the stupidest name ever) was cancelled ... to my sorrow.
SG-1, TSCC and Firefly were all great shows, Eureka was very good, but getting somewhat formulaic and repetitious.
Looking forward to new Being Human (UK) and Fringe episodes.
wow, I did not even get past the pathetic battlestar galactica start.
Syfy has no scifi. they gutted sg1, gave us sith rate low budget mutant movie upon mutant movie, WEAK revisioning of old stories, patheticly fake ghost hunting, and to top it all off....WRESTLING!!!!
eureka aside (it was a series in search of a writer with a consistent vision), there is some person in charge at that channel who has no clue about good sci fi.
if firefly is so great why was it cancelled and why has it only had a tepid cult following?
I have tried to watch it but found it plodding and whiny. Perhaps the fans should band together to have them make a motion picture or something.
*SNICKER*
...on the SCIFI Channel, (hopefully) NO WAY!....
we're talkin' SCIENCE FICTION....
if not outright fakery.
(IMHO) all garbage shows like Ghost Busters...
rem: John Edwards...etc..etc..etc...
They need to make rom for mor wrestling and worthless ghost chasers.
Have you tried ‘Alphas’? Monday evening 10pm. Of course, if you don’t like ‘Eureka’ you’re probably not much for ‘Warehouse 13’ either, so you wouldn’t have gotten to Alphas. It just premiered a few weeks ago.
For me, there was no character to relate to in ‘Terminator’. Firefly had brilliant characters, all of whom were loveable in their quirky ways, most especially Kaylee of course. I was also a big fan of Shepherd Book. Can’t even name the characters in Terminator. Summer is very good, especially in the Firefly movie. Being a highly skilled dancer really made her performances sing.
Which is why I'd love for USA to pick it up. I think USA also has 'Psych' which is really silly and could be a good lead-in for "Eureka".
I used to watch SciFi a lot but after NBC bought them and started cancelling shows right and left and putting on that crap, I watched less and less. I have only watched it a few times since the last episode of Galactica.
