How Will You Celebrate This 9/12? (No march on DC in september)
Freedom Works ^ | August 7th | Matt Kibbe

I'm often asked why we're not organizing another Taxpayer March on Washington this September 12th. Why, after more than a million Americans protested on 9/12/2009 and 9/12/2010, aren't we headed back to Washington?

The reason is simple: we're not just a protest movement anymore.

This movement has had stages. We began as a protest movement against big government in 2009, morphed into America's most powerful get-out-the-vote machine in 2010, and pushed for transformative legislative change to rein in government in 2011.

I go both ways on this.

The idea of the tea party movement morphing into a long term movement is a great idea, a great way to move forward.

BUT! We can't forget the protests. People need to see the faces of average americans on their TV screens. These protests can(not always, but often times) provide something unique that americans need to see.

You are not alone. We surround them. Seeing huge crowds get together *IN SPITE* of the media's claims that the tea party is over and dead is still an important aspect of all this.

And Kibbe even brushes into that point himself when he says "we're not just a protest movement anymore" Not just? Great! But we still need to protest. We need another massive wave to hit DC again and again, until they listen.

I agree with your thoughts... sometimes seeing numbers (like a million plus folks in D.C. ) speaks volumes. Not only that but being one among a HUGE group is “inspirational” for the TP crowd. It feels “inclusive” and powerful. Those emotions (IMHO) tend to motivate the person to stay involved and strong.

I concur! I was there for the original 9/12 Tea Party in DC and I met so many wonderful people. I don’t think the effect of so many conservatives on other conservatives should be underestimated. It’s energizing; it’s inspiring... and it let’s both sides of the aisle know WE ARE STILL AROUND and can show up on your doorstep, or in your district, in force.

Not arranging another big get together allows THEM to portray us as weak, disintegrated and the like. It’s a bad idea NOT to have a huge Tea Party. We should do it yearly!

I was wondering if there was a meeting this year.

WE NEED TO BE THERE IN 2012 THOUGH!! I hope we have the biggest rally ever right before the election. That would send a huge message.

My husband and son went. I stayed home with the two younger kids... wasn’t sure at the time about bathroom availability, how far we would have to walk etc... They told me that it was so powerful and that they felt part of something amazingly strong. My son was impressed by how many great people he met of all races, ages, religions, backgrounds etc.. He talked and talked about the general respect shown to all people and the amount of patriotism shown and “felt”. I have really given a lot of thought to it and believe maybe it is something “primal”... belonging to a large group or maybe it is feeling like you are part of a “LOUD” voice. Not sure exactly but I truly feel that a mass of people impresses the idea that a group has strength.

Isn’t Beck doing something in that time frame?

I agree. We need a march on DC in 2012 that’s bigger than the 2009 march, and/or even bigger than the restoring honor rally.

Beck will be in Israel later this month.

If there’s something else planned that I don’t know of, by all means post info about it. It’d be great if he comes back to the US and rallies the troops in DC.

We do need to get beyond just a protest movement. But we also need to have marches and rallies every now and then to show continued strength — and what better time than 9/12?

We shouldn't forget Beck will be holding a rally at the Southern Wall in Israel on August 24, I believe.

Having been to countless rallies in DC, I really believe it's too expensive for folks to go there now, whether by air or car. Then there's the cost accomodations which are inflated when a huge rally comes to town.

Who's even taking a vacation now!!!!!

Perhaps rally organizers should be thinking more about state rallies taking place in state capitals.....all on the same day, all at the same time, all with the same theme. There's plenty of good conservative speakers to go around. Almost everyone can make a rally in their state capital.

Anyhow, DC is one of the most affluent places in the country now, what with all the government bureaucrats' high salaries plus there's sustained good real estate values in the city, unlike in most of the nation's regions now.

Let's keep the rally money in our states, not DC.

Just a thought.

I have gone to 3 April 15 tax protests here in NYC run by the Tea Party. The first two were great—about 7,000 people showed up. This last one we were lucky if they had 300-250 people. But with the economy getting crappier and crappier who knows what will happen.

I concur. We really need to be in DC in 2012. One big rally close to the elections could inspire the mushy middle.

I'm stunned there won't be another 9/12 March in DC this year... we were planning to attend. Why not??

We were there for the first (amazing!) 9/12/09 March on DC, but didn't go last year because Glenn Beck stupidly had his rally in DC only a few weeks before 9/12/10. We had to pick which rally we could attend - we couldn't do both. I kind of wish we were there for the 9/12/10 instead of Beck's rally, to be totally honest.

I've spoken to hundreds of people who would have been at the 9/12/10 March on DC if they also didn't decide to do Beck's rally instead.

Whatever his reasons, Glenn basically destroyed that rally. True, he got his media coverage with his rally. Then what? That weakened the Tea Party movement without doing anything of its own.

Yep, Beck co-opted the Tea Party that year.

He knew what he was doing.

This year, of course, the Tea Party Express will be in Tampa, FL on Sept 12th.

Not arranging another big get together allows THEM to portray us as weak, disintegrated and the like.

Apparently you haven't been following the news the past few days. We miraculously went from fringe, unrepresentative, astroturf, insurance-company mercenaries, to THE MOST POTENT POLITICAL FORCE in American history. We control less than 1/3 of 1/3 of Boenher's 1/3 of the government, yet the S&P downgrade was *solely* because of our total domination of the debt ceiling agreement terms.
