Ditka praises Palin, talks football during Washington address

WASHINGTON — Mike Ditka began his Lessons from Leaders keynote address Saturday night at Five Points Washington with an expletive-sprinkled remark about the first speaker in the series.

"I understand Sarah Palin spoke here last year. I admire her," Ditka said. "She's a great lady, mother and wife, and that's more important than the bull**** the media spreads about her."

Ditka softened the tone of his comments for the rest of his talk and a question-and-answer session, which lasted about an hour.

The former Chicago Bears coach and player talked about football, politics, his admiration for Abraham Lincoln, and his recipe for success in front of an audience of about 300, many wearing Bears attire.

He was supposed to speak in the 1,000-seat Caterpillar Performing Arts Center, but his address was moved across the hall to a banquet room to provide a more intimate setting. A banquet was held in the room before his speech.

Ditka said he admired Lincoln "because he never strayed from his convictions, unlike today's politicians," and he described a successful person as a happy person, not necessarily somebody who makes a lot of money.

A portion of the proceeds from Ditka's appearance, which included a private reception, will be used for capital projects at Five Points.

I think he thought about it, but his wife put the kibosh on it.

Football coaching is one of the last bastions of true manhood that are left in the United States. I have nothing but respect for the discipline and hard work that is required to be a successful football coach, whether at the professional, college or high school level.

Recently read a book on Bear Bryant called "The Junction Boys" that I highly recommend to others. It centers around a 2-week training camp he ran in 1954 when he took over Texas A&M. Reminds me of Marine Corps boot camp - only this was even tougher!

Is Ditka still employed by the NFL in any capacity? If so, he won't be for very long. See, praising Palin is a taboo violating the NFL’s politically correct speech code. Just remember what happened with Rush Limbaugh and the NFL - twice!

And that POS in the WH would still be in Chicago and still in the IL Senate. I would vote for Ditka as POTUS. Too bad he is not running.
