Schock Votes for Spending Discipline House of Representatives Passes Budget Control Act

Washington, Aug 1 -

Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the Budget Control Act of 2011:

“The passage of the Budget Control Act represents a serious shift in the mindset of how Washington has approached raising the debt limit. Congress has rightly focused this debate on how much to cut, instead of how much to spend. This year began with the President’s call on Congress to raise the debt limit by $2 trillion with zero cuts. The President was also insistent on raising taxes. I joined with a majority of my colleagues to focus on cutting spending as opposed to increasing revenue. As a result, the bipartisan legislation cuts trillions of dollars from the debt, doesn’t raise taxes and takes serious steps toward a path of fiscal solvency. This bill also focuses on the critical vote of a balanced budget amendment, which is an important aspect to fixing our problem for the longer term.

“While this has been a frustrating and lengthy process, I think the finished product is something to be proud of. It’s not perfect. In fact, it’s far from perfect, but with divided government neither side gets everything they want. A great number of Republicans and Democrats who joined together in support of this legislation is evident of its support. This bill continues to put our government on track for the first time since World War II to spend less than the previous year.

“America still has a debt crisis, but tonight was a step in the right direction toward putting our budget back on a path of fiscal solvency.”

###

Background on Budget Control Act of 2011

Attached: Outline of the amended Budget Control Act

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has stated that the Budget Control Act would reduce the deficit over the next decade by at least $2 trillion.

For the first time in fifteen years, the House and Senate are guaranteed to vote on a balanced budget amendment. In 1996, the BBA failed in the Senate by only one vote. Since then, the debt has grown by $9.2 trillion.

The amended Budget Control Act of 2011 is not the ultimate solution to the nation’s spending-driven debt crisis, but it accomplishes the following three objectives: • Cutting spending by a larger amount than the amount to raise the debt limit; • Capping future spending to limit the growth of government, without any job-killing tax hikes; • Guaranteeing the American people a vote in the House and Senate on a balanced budget amendment.

This is the freshman who took over Obama’s sec of transport old district which includes the Bloomington Cat works I believe. If there is a challange to Boner he’ll probably (like Wisconsin’s Duffy) back Bonehead.

The guy I’m watching in the Illinois US Senate race is Rutherford

Mark Levin was right this should have killed in the House.. There are miniscule benefits in it. If the conservatives take the House and Senate in 2012 the GOP is going to have one hell of a time with this split review panel from both houses. In addition the Bush tax cut will end at 2012 so taxes will hike But at least two members from the Illinois delegation voted against it Johnson and Walsh

Yes, this should have been killed in the house. It’s a shame Schock supported it.

I’m not surprised by Rep. Schock’s vote. My congressman is Bob Dold, a Republican from the 10th Dist., which includes Waukegan, Wheeling, and Wilmette. I emailed him and asked whether he would vote against a bill that includes spending that violates the 10th Amendment, including spending for the Departments of Education, HHS, and HUD. I said that I hope that he won’t vote for any bill that includes that spending. I got an automated response that states that they’ll send a detailed response, later.

I think that, in 2014, Treasurer Rutherford will run for governor. I hope that Congressman Roskam will run for the U.S. Senate.

It looks like it’s time to call Schock home; he’s just another Illinois RINO.

Mr Schock even had praise for the First Lady’s Let’s Move campaign.

‘I think Michelle Obama is on the right track with her Let’s Move campaign to bring down childhood obesity,’ he continued.

Who should oppose Rep. Schock, in the primary? I think that Randy White would be a great congressman.

Nice hearing from you Phil...Been trying to follow on what is going on in the city and county. Wish there was a FR on the citys SW side where I was politically active anywhere from Bridgeport Brighton Park,Garfield Ridge or Clearing area or even Summit/Beford Park I could commiserate with from time to time.

On May 31, I was laid off from a Chicago P.R. company where I worked for almost six years. I’m still looking for a job.

This week, I started working, part-time, for Frederick Collins, the Republican who is running against Rep. Bobby Rush. He’s a Chicago police officer, and, in 2010, he ran for Cook Co. sheriff. The district includes Chicago’s SW side, but the new district will include some suburbs, including Orland Park, Frankfort, and New Lenox. Do you know of anyone who might volunteer and/or donate to his campaign? If so, please ask them to email me at philacollins@yahoo.com.
