Just curious ... Is your powdered milk low fat or whole?
I’m trying to find a reasonably priced supplier for whole dried milk.
Evaporated will do in a pinch but it has only about a 2 year shelf life. (Stuff like Parmalat is irradiated - and tastes weird - I won’t buy it.)
We usually get low fat due to health conditions. But I did see some whole powdered milk as well as cheese when I did a search on the internet. I just don’t remember and of course did not mark it because we have what we need pretty cheap locally.
Nido is whole instant powdered milk, it’s available at Walmart in the Mexican food section, not the regular powdered milk section. It mixes instanly in hot or cold water and is the best powdered milk I’ve ever used. I only discovered it pretty recently, it’s manufactured in Chile. The US doesn’t allow whole powdered milk that I know of. I’ve had it from NZ before.
NIDO dried whole milk by Nestle is available in stores with an Hispanic section.
King Arthur Flour has a dried whole milk that takes a whisk and hot water to reconstitute and is more expensive than the NIDO.
I think the Parmalat is ultra high pasteurized, so it is *cooked*. It also really has only a 6-month shelf life and then maybe another week in the refrigerator, once opened.
For cooking, there is also Nestle canned Media Crema table cream. It is really thick and can be whipped or diluted to taste. It is also found in the Hispanic section, comes in very small quantities, is expensive, but is good in a pinch.
