Sorry, Amy, but you knew this was going to happen if you didn't straighten out your life. And still you didn't straighten out your life.
Unlike Morrison and Joplin, Amy could sing.
The difference, at least with Morrison, was that Jim was actually talented in the “lyrics and melody” end of music.
Janis and Amy depended on others.
I will NEVER, for the life of me, understand what possesses a person to do this to themselves.
Sad, awful...and sadly, inevitable.
Lindsay Lohan leaves the on-deck circle, steps toward the box.... Fame eats some people alive. It’s pathetic how obsessed our culture is with it.
I actually really liked that song. But it explained so much about her. Sad - all her weath and fame and dead at 27.
Two years to go.
You could well be right.
You mean she was still alive? She looked like the walking dead.
One well traveled musician put it down to boredom.
When they’re sitting in their hotel room for hours on end, with nothing to do.
I’m sure that lots of people have her in their “Dead Pool”...
“You can choose fame and fortune, but neither of them are to be what they proclaim.”
Bob Dylan
Gram Parsons was less than a couple of months shy of 27.
She should have listened to her daddy. I just hope people don’t blame themselves.
Yeah, right. I haven't entirely forgotten. Morrison could sing, but smoking and alcohol had taken a heavy toll by the time LA Woman was made. I doubt that had he lived he'd done much more. Unless the Doors had continued to move in the blues direction.
I can't comment on Amy though, not my kind of music so I never listened to her.
Ronnie Van Zant
“Up on housing project hill,
It’s either fortune or fame,
You must pick one or the other,
Though neither of them are to be what they claim.”
Rest in peace Amy Winehouse. A tragically short life for a very good R&B singer.

Agreed. Bohemia has always been fun, but it is not a long term option. Typically.
I believe Janis Joplin lived in Texas as a child and sang in a church choir...
I never thought that her song about not going to rehab was a good message to the youth that followed her music. Diego has the right diagnosis. Too bad she never understood that sobriety is the priority. Maybe her death will be a power of example to the young people that follow her music. R.I.P.
Amy (who?) Winehouse will be forgotten tommorrow. Just another singer. Morrison and Joplin were original singers that actually created something and are still remembered 40 years after their death.
To read that people were shocked at her death is unbeleivable. Everyone saw this coming.
I hope Lindsay Lohan takes note of this...she is heading down the same road.
Sad news..what a talented singer.
Condolances to her family and friends
