Last week, we asked our readers to vote for their favorite progressive rock bands. Looking over the results, it's a real pity that only two of the bands are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Here's hoping that the class of 2012 is entirely prog. (Just imagine the epic jam between Yes, King Crimson and Rush the stage would buckle under the weight of the countless people that have played in the first two bands.) Anyway, until that magical day happens, click though to see the results of the poll.

Holdworth is more fusion,
But how do you define prog rock?
In Before ELO Fans! (Too late for Iron Butterfly and Grand Funk Railroad.)
In Before One Legged Jethro Tull Rock’n’roll on Flute!
And yet, throughout all this, we are forgetting probably the most influential band of all time....
Dirk, Nasty, Stig and Barry.....

I know where you’re going and I agree. I could add a lot more to my list of favorites but I didn’t want to go overboard. I’d do a whole ‘nother list of fusion with Jeff Beck, Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Hellborg, etc. But they all could go under the broad umbrella of Prog.
Ever go to any of the Prog festivals? I’ve done Prog Day at Chapel Hill NC once and NEAR Fest in Bethlehem PA and Trenton NJ about 4 times. Nektar played at the last NEAR Fest I attended. Best concert I ever saw.
I refuse to read rolling stone.
Did the Alan Parsons Project make the list?
I have never seen Nektar, and they are far and away one of the best, most overlooked bands that ever was.
Re: Transatlantic
That looks like Mike Portnoy on drums. Is this where he went when he left Dream Theater?

Rolling Stone was fish wrap even in the early 70’s
Creem was the mag!
Also left out of the discussion is Kings X.

"In the Dead of Night" is my favorite song that they did. UK is a really great album. I think they only did one other, and Bruford left and Terry Bozzio came in. Actually, I think Holdsworth left too.
I saw UK as an opening act for Jethro Tull back in the mid-70s. Great concert.

Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater (Drums)
Roine Stolt - The Flower Kings (Guitar)
Neal Morse - Spock's Beard (Keys)
Pete Trewavas - Marillion (Bass)
I saw UK at the Youngstown Agora.
It was a great moment in time.
Thanks!
You know? I think I love anything that is not mainstream top 40.
