A DESERT sheikh has carved out a big name for himself by having his moniker etched in capital letters visible from space.
Workmen scoured "HAMAD" into the sand on the orders of Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan.
The name is two miles across with letters a kilometre high. It is so huge that the "H", the first "A" and part of the "M" have been made into waterways.
The mega-rich sheikh, 63 a member of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates boasts a £14billion fortune that is second only to the Saudi king's.
I think that's true but only slightly. Mandarin is 3x more popular than English and he didn't use Chinese characters.
Well, ahem, not to brag or anything. Come on! With the wind in Chicago, there’s no way I could’ve peed from the second story and written my name in the snow. It would’ve looked like yellow morse code.
“using american oil”
Where can I shop for American only oil?
Looks like they failed to leave enough room for the left margin seeing that the “H” starts out in the water.
Slightly is fine. I imagine more people will be exposed to this, that read english.
Should we query the pump when we put our card in to fill up, as to where it’s fuel comes from?
good question
That is the finest advertisement for ham I have ever seen!
Big deal. I peed and wrote my name in the snow at Chicago and you could read it from the second floor

The ‘story’ went that MLK had peed a message in the White House Lawn “LBJ SUCKS” and when asked why everyone thought it was a big deal, LBJ was told it was Lady Bird’s handwriting.
Oh, my......but, that is a good one.
When ya got it, flaunt it.
Alternate BS:
Arabic is written right to left, Habib the contractor started Hamid's name too far to the left
Still not as big as John Hancock’s....
But seriously...if’n he flooded the whole thing very shallow he could turn it into a salt farm....
I wonder how many of those people actually are able to read and write Mandarin. Aren't there like 30,000 characters in the alphabet?
Probably Phillipino’s.
Nah... Filipinos work in the hospitality and service industries. They're usually female. The back-breaking phyisical labor over there is performed by Pakistanis and Bengalis. And these workers are totally expendible and treated as such.
We all (us guys) “wrote” our names in the snow sometime before puberty. Then we grew up. I guess wealthy desert dwellers feel a bit inadequate.
