I bet these types of stories will increase as the predator population increases.

A family was stunned when a mountain lion entered their home early morning, killed one of their dogs right beside their bed, and carried it off into the night. The dog was a 12-year-old yellow lab named ‘Scout.’ “It was 4 a.m. and we were sleeping,” said Mack Anderson.

Similar story in Salida recently...the mtn. lion entered thru a doggie door in the middle of the day with mom and some kids in the house.

Kids and the elderly, sick and/or injured also are easy prey and predators have honed their prey selection abilities for eons.

Watch out for Granny.

In the linked case, the wife had to defend her husband with 9/11 calls.

Pitiful!

Had she had a gun, the munching could have been stopped. Had the man carried a gun on his walks he might not have been munched on at all.

Thomas Jefferson to Cartwright: “therefore, let your gun be your constant companion on your walks”.

“There have been increased sightings of pumas in the west metro green belts off the foothills the last few years. Why not? Can’t shoot them and poodles are easy to catch. So are little kids...”

Much easier when the nice Open Space Parks member of the Armed & Rangerous makes people NOT exercise their Open Carry rights which Colorado has had on its law books since it began.

Damn

The bears don't worry me but I admit cats make me uncomfortable. Our little patch west of Trinidad has a lot of bears. I have seen them but not a cat. My son did when he was about 12 and ran across one on the ATV by himself. He was scared and described the “really long tail” and how it looked at him. It moved off then stopped and watched him. I think the engine scared it. If he was on a bicycle it may have been bad.

Cats hunt. Bears are mostly opportunists.

Sad times when the wife has to call 911, then wait for a response.

Any predator entering an inhabited structure can be killed as a reasonable risk to human life.

The members of the DOW, or any other of the Armed & Rangerous can only confiscate the carcass, for “scientific necropsy”, of course. And, afterwards, the nice hide becomes a bear rug for the jack booted to rest those boots on after a long hard day of being Armed & Rangerous.

Exactly so.

There are miles of trails for walkers, bikers, skaters, equestrians, frisbee golf. How about shooters? I have talked to open space about just one small area (Rocky Flats?). I thought they were going to call the police because I suggested it. Don't buy lottery tickets!

Remember the 100-pound elderly woman who didn’t have a chance against a 275-pound bear in the kitchen of her home?

A 93-year-old New Mexico woman was mauled to death by a black bear that broke into her home over the weekend, stunned wildlife officials have confirmed.

Adelia Maestas Trujillo of Cleveland, in north-central New Mexico, was killed “by multiple bite injuries,” said Scott Wilson

In Colorado, bears have been seen near malls and schools. As many as 16 sightings were reported in one night this month in Trinidad, Colo., said Todd Malmsbury, spokesman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

Same deal in Aspen last fall right? Except I don't care because those morons ask for in spades. Some doctor notwithstanding, most of those folks west of Trinidad are old school Colorado. They would fix it if they could. One old boy I met grew up on the Pergatory, went to WWII. His family has been there forever. He died a few years ago bitter that he had to let bears and cow elk off the Bosque trash his pastures. And big money ranchers were encroaching his water rights. He wasn't rich or political so he was getting rolled over. Las Animaus is a tough venue.

“Sad times when the wife has to call 911, then wait for a response.”

How about just a sad excuse for an American woman? She could have bought a gun.

“I like your Jefferson quote”

Thanks, glad you liked it. Actually, the Founders regularly said and wrote things anout guns that NRA lobbyists would not dare say at a locked door private party.

But, the times they are a changin’.

I forgot to mention another truly prime sap.

When the puma died trying to eat that dog, some more or less female thing named Wendy, who was the spokesperson for a large cat advocacy group named Sickapo or some such, shot off her mouth and nearly sank her group.

Seems Wendy was far too windy. She said that Colorado law did not allow the shooting of a puma to protect pets, just livestock. That was when the ‘fhit hit the san’, so to speak.

Cat ladies from across America were outraged that little Fluffums could be seen as mere puma food! They called and emailed all their friends and the resulting wave of hostile email crash the Sickapo server.

Seems the dog owners were even less pleased. Poor, poor Sickapo.

Wendy was evidently close to the DOW enviros, and they conveniently delayed their “criminal investigation” of the puma shooting to allow the Trolls of the animal whacko world to grandstand and raise funds.

Of the ones I dealt with, all I can say is Bah! Humbuggery!

Or in some cases Herbuggery!

That’ll teach him not to rub snack food oil in his arms ! Or did he take some snack inside the tent ?

“Note to teen campers” bears aren’t very discriminating when it comes to eating. If you smell good they’ll snack on you too !! >PS

Good! Too many greenies infiltrating the DOW. We buy tags and they say bird watchers are just as entitled.

Guess they never heard of Pitman-Roberts.

Predators can be put down on the Range in immediate defense of livestock and pets. But yes, at least some of the wildlife and law enforcement officials are rather mental in the trendy way up here. That’s what universities have been issuing for decades (biologists, all), and this is a strange, socialistic eduocracy/oligarchy. So are some of the more influential, so-called ranchers (New Age outlook on animals and environmentalism).

As some of my old friends in the Ozarks said, “F’em, and feed ‘em goatmeat!” What we need to do is launch an advertising campaign for thousands of folks in the Ozarks to move here. ;-)
