Believe it or not, I’ve heard a blind man say that he could even pilot an airplane if he wanted to. Please!
Technically, a blind pilot should be able to do as well as any other pilot under IFR if his instruments are set up for him. All pilots are equally blind under IFR regardless of their physical limitations or lack thereof.
But there does have to some realism here. You aren't going to be a photographer if you're blind. You aren't going to be a computer science professor if you have an IQ of 40 (try women's or GLBT studies instead).
I watched a late-night movie once (had to be a recycled made-for-tv one) where a bunch of blind people are on their way to a convention when the plane crashes on a mountain top and the only survivors were the blind people.
The dialogue was so unintentionally hilarious that you had to ask how this got past the script editors. I recall that as the blind people wandered around, a fight broke out about who would lead the group and one blind guy said to his blind rival "We'll SEE about that!"
Definitely a low light in filmmaking.
