Headteacher Simon Smith said: “Our policy for boys is they attend clean shaven.”

How about girls? Just asking.

American kids can’t read, don’t know the classics, can’do basic arithmetic (much less algebra), are taught how to cheat to tests and put condoms on bananas and yet don’t know the 3 branches of US Government, much less the Bill of Rights.

And a kid who’s puberty got ahead of the curve is a problem?

This is stupid. On many accounts not the least of which is that God gave us facial hair. DEAL WITH IT!!

I feel a school can set standards for cleanliness and maintenance of a beard but to say you can’t have one is stupid.

For some reason we Americans have this weird hate relationship with facial hair. Starting in the 20th century facial hair became a stigma. I just do not get it.

Facial hair (for a man) is no different than the hair that grows on his head. Properly trimmed and maintained, it causes on offense and is not a source of any hygeine problems.

But in the early 20th century we decided that our men should perpetually look like little boys. Maybe it was the homosexual lobby pushing it. But now, men cannot have hair (even neatly trimmed) anywhere.

You have men waxing their chests, their butts, their nether regions, all in the name of looking like a 12 year old boy.

Why??? What is wrong with a well trimmed beard. I sport a beard during the winter months. I keep mine well trimmed and short. What’s anyone’s beef with that?

Also, please do not tell me that the school has the right to do this. The school is not a private enterprise. It is a public institution. Making arbitrary rules that (in this case) go against nature, makes zero sense. Why not ban eyebrows next?

When beards are outlawed, only outlaws will have beards.

The boy is better off out of the socialized school system. We should root out socialized schooling and replace it with a capitalist school system.

There is no more reason to socialize the schooling industry than there is to socialize the healthcare industry.

Would they insist Sikhs be clean-shaven? If not, they should most definitely STFU.

When I was in 8th grade, one of the guys came to the first day of school with a full beard. He was 13, but all the guys in his family had early facial hair. They had to change the dress code to make him shave. He came back the next day with big, pointy, Elvis type sideburns, and the principal freaked.

I started having to shave in the 7th grade. I grew a beard every summer after that. And I am not talking about some hippie wisp of a beard here. My Irish ancestry was in full bloom clear up to my eyes.

I remember one kid in elementary school that had a mustache. And lots of guys in HS had beards. No one ever cared about it then ... why now?

If the boy has foliculitis, get a note from the doc. Then the school can’t force him to shave.

Way back when I was that age we had a “Maynard G. Krebs Day” (anyone remember the Dobie Gillis TV show?) at our school. For a week before the administration would remind us that anyone who was not clean shaven or in violation of the dress code would be suspended.
On Monday morning nearly every student showed up in jeans and T-shirt, those of us who could sported a beard. There were too many to suspend.

The UK has a Muslim problem and they’re booting kids from school for growing a beard?
