The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived for an official welcoming ceremony at Prince Edward Island today - the setting for the novel Anne of Green Gables. They arrived in a horse-drawn coach to the delight of thousands more fans who waited patiently for hours for a chance of a glance of the newly-weds.
Kate was seen wearing a cream pencil dress by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen - who designed her wedding dress. She teamed the outfit with navy blue heels for a visit close to her heart - Anne of Green Gables is one of her favourite books.
As the carriage passed the crowds, a sea of camera phones were held up and calls of 'William and Kate' rang out.

The period for those costumes is Victorian 1850-1860...curious. Anne of Green Gables was set in late Edwardian times. Was there an explanation of this? (I’m a fan of the Green Gables books.)
Those period costumes are mid 1860’s and Anne of Green Gables was set in the late 1870’s, bustle era not hoop.
LOL. Good one. I do worry that she's one of those Can Never Be Too Thin types. Remember how neurotic Diana was? Anyway, she is so chic and a pleasure to see.

That was me, my bust exploded! And my daughters too! This gal didn’t gain anything. It was the most unusual pregnancy I’ve ever encountered. Her 2nd, she popped out quickly. People are different, and who knows how she’ll be. I do have a question that I haven’t heard. Did the royal PTB do a virgin test on this gal like they did Diana? Or is that last century?

I think Anne's growing up years were more Gibson Girl, which would account for the "puffed sleeve" obsession. And once again, that silhouette was absurd, all wasp waisted, shoving the bosom forward like a bad case of scoleosis.
If you love fashion history, a great movie was the recent one about Coco Chanel. The movie itself was a real loser, IMO, but the last ten minutes was a breathtaking runway history of Chanel's best work. Worth a Netflix rental just to see the development of modern sportswear, which is what Kate shows off brilliantly. I do hope she's not a tiresome anorexic, because I look forward to her showing off more clothes.

I'm sure Marilla paid no attention at all to bustles or the lack of them. I love theatrical/historical costume. A good costumer can place a date and time if she knows her history. Just the shape of a bonnet can locate a year where the style first becomes popular. "Spoon" bonnets, poke bonnets. Matrons, even young ones, would wear little lace caps indoors.
Not everyone likes to see rolls of fat on a woman...
Some young women are naturally thin, and anxiety and/or hard work make them burn off the calories. This is okay, but sometimes it can be tough for such girls to get pregnant. If you want to start a baby you may have to go off on a loooong, relaxing vacay, with no worries, and just eat and sleep and lie around all day. Rather like taking a racing mare off the track and letting her down to she can be a broodmare.
I like Kate, she's fun. I like good fashion, and maybe she could lead us out of the doldrums of too tight, too revealing clothes and back into the classier realm of good fit and design.
I mean, sometimes I am embarrassed for the Fox babes that are so smart, but sit in the "leg chair" and play the Sharon Stone thing...and these are women I like and enjoy watching, like Monica Crowley, etc.
I'll bet Kate would never do that.
And I so loved her simple, elegant, modest wedding gown. Are you getting sick of the Barbie naked wedding dress, the wornout use of strapless dresses? Every single bride wears them now, and they make slightly overweight women look downright fat, and they make slender women look bony and scrawny--that look flatters very few women.

There’s a big difference between being skinny and being fit with low body fat. A skinny person is small partly because his or her muscles are small and flabby. This is not attractive, as it bespeaks illness, physical or mental. The Twiggy look, in other words. Someone who is fit has very little body fat but has firm, toned muscles. This is the appearance of female athletes. As far as I can see from the muscles in her legs, the new duchess seems to be very fit rather than skinny.
