I have 2 friends who need to do background checks on perspective tenants for their 2-family homes, one friend is a single mother and doesn't want a criminal living in her house.
They want to check both criminal and financial records before they let a tenant in their home.
There are many internet sites out there and am not sure which ones are the better.
Any help would be appreciated.

For background checks, you really need to be careful. Most services just run a check on the nationwide databases, which are VERY incomplete. To get a good criminal background check, you need to go to a company that will send a real person to physically check the records at the county courthouses in every known residence of the person you are checking. FirstAdvantage/SafeRent is one company that does this for certain, but there are others that might be more affordable. You have to request the county records search, there is an additional cost, and it will take at least 24 hours to get the results, but it is worth it.
Check with Hillary she had records for a time.
Interesting.. and not signing the release form would be a good indicator. Have the tenant pay the $18 as well.
