I read somewhere a couple of days ago that beck left the New York/New Jersey area because he was afraid ‘that he’d lose his soul’. He had to get out of the area and the news business.
I get that. Several years ago I worked in a nursing home for disabled adults. After a few months, I was bawling in my boss’s office about some horrible situation that I’d seen and he reassured me that I’d ‘harden’ after a few years and things like that wouldn’t bother me any more.
I thought about it and decided that I didn’t want to be the kind of person who wasn’t bothered by sad/unjust/horrible situations. I felt like I was losing my humanity.
So I quit.
It’s the same reason I never watched horror movies. I didn’t want to be desensitized to blood and gore and screaming.
Welcome to Texas, Mr. Beck. You’ve chosen a beautiful home. I hope you and your family are happy here and that your new venture does well.
BTW, I must warn new comers - it’s freakin’ hot and dry and allergies suck here! lol!

You’re exactly right. I fear what kids have been becoming for a long time now. They’re on sensory overload and hooked on alarmingly violent video games and media. The constant news stories/youtube footage of kids beating each other while the rest of them either watch or cheer it on, the daily news clips showing young people stampeding one another to get into the Casey Anthony courtroom, and on and on and on.
The kids need saving, to save the Republic; I wish Glenn much success and many blessings in his upcoming mission to do as much as possible toward that end.
I loved your post.
Years ago, I was teaching in a school where quite a few students displayed deplorable character traits. One day, I was told by my department head that I would get used to it. I told him that I had no intention of getting used to it, that I hoped I never would get used to such behavior. The next year, I was teaching at a different school.
Great tag line, BTW.
