I cut the grass today, it was hot hot hot in Garland, TX.
After that I did a little watering. Now, I'm outside a fair bit, notice all the people going by. Typical people out walking, people on bikes, noisy vehicles. There are several laborer types who cruise by on their 24" girl's bikes, I know most of 'em on sight.
Something weird happened around 5:30 or so. I see a Hispanic guy, maybe 30-40ish, on a bike, approaching from a direction that is not typical. No big deal, typical laborer guy with jeans and a sleeved western shirt and ball cap. He rolls through the stop sign and turns, still nothing unusual, but then he pulls into my neighbor's driveway up to the corner of their fence. As he turns the corner my neighbor's dog starts barking, that was weird, his dogs are always curious about passers by but they don't normally bark. This jerk stops right by the chainlink, I'm thinking he knows these dogs, and spits right in the face of the male.
Both are pits, which I don't have any particular issue with, but at that point the big one starts going nuts. Clearly, they recognized this idiot. He gets back on his bike and rides off down the sidewalk. Now, the male pitty is trying to jump over the 8' fence to get at this guy, dogs know when they are being dissed. That dog can jump 3/4 of the way over that fence, and wanted out bad.
Guy spit right in that dog's face. He's lucky they put up a fence taller than the 6' they used to have, because he could have cleared that, I swear. That dog wants this guy, he knew who it was when the scumbag turned the corner and rode up to his property.
I'll be watching for that moron, don't know what I can do but yell at him, but man I'd love to see that dog get a piece of his leg. Yeah, I'll diall 911 and all, but I'll also tell the cops what I saw him do and how I figure he had it coming if it happens.
Did you give the dog a treat?
What a jerk that guy was! I’m wishing the dog had at least got a piece of his hand or something through the fence.
He’ll be the first one crying about dogs being vicious if one of those dogs gets out and gets him too.
No need for that behavior at all. Karma needs to come get that guy and I hope your neighbors are insured well because you know if something happens he’ll be suing.
I’m glad it was you and not me. Sometimes my mouth runs away with my brain.
Take photographs.
It will serve the guy right if the dog takes a piece out of him, but then what will happen is that the dog will be labeled vicious and will be put down. That won’t be too funny, will it?
You going to talk to your neighbor about this incident? He may know something.
When I worked w/juvenile offenders, they used to open the gates to let the dogs out, and then return after half an hour to burglarize the place. Sounds like this mutha jumpa had a history of mistreatment w/that dog. Good spot. I hope the dog doesn’t suffer for protecting his property. (I used to take care of interlopers myself. Kept dogs inside; I went out to circle the perimeter.)
IMHO, if testimony is proffered regarding the deliberate teasing of a pit bull by Senor E.L Stupido, the jury will likely award ten pounds of meat to be given to the dog.
Oops - you mean the dog already had his ten pounds from the plaintiff?
Case closed
Court is adjourned.
Sad, but you are probably right. Still, this guy has something coming to him. Maybe he’s been chased by dogs before, I know I have and I ride bikes a lot, but I like dogs and I don’t antagonize them. I mean they seem to be good animals, don’t cause any problems, but I can see the headlines now: “Another pitbull attacks a person.”
Sorry, Chuck....I see no heroes in this story. Live your life and forget it.
Can you modify the top of the fence so that it flexes down when the dog is really excited?
This would make fun film if the man in question suddenly found that there was no fence between him and the dog.
I know you are right, I won’t do anything. Take his pic or act like I am, use the cerebral approach. I’m too old and broke down to get in a fight with somebody. Just really eats at me this guy would do something so dumb.
Can you have a camera handy in case the jerk shows up again?
Get into a concealed position and smack him in the legs with a pellet gun.
I’d advise your neighbor to get the burgler alarm and cameras working. Toot sweet. And brush up the dog on not eating any meat thrown in the yard.
You see, we Americans have respect and a love for dogs, even those we don’t particularly cotton to. Other nationalities, on the other hand, won’t think twice about killing them, and cruely, if they stand in the way of their objective.
Your neighbor obviously has something scumbag feels ‘entitled’ to, and intents to take. Tormenting the dog is the first step in turning it into an object - and in it’s death.
I would take this event very seriously.
I am calling BS on this. There are residences in the fox-and-jacobs tract home areas in Garland that have an 8 foot hurricane fence?
Nope. In LA, but not in Garland.
Name the street and I will drive by to see a 8 foot mesh link fence.
For those who don’t know Garland, it looks JUST like ARLEN in King of the Hill.....There are no 8 foot mesh fences, and you can’t spit through a wooden fence.
Oh, I promise you, if the guy had come my way I would have knocked him off his bike, in my yard, and told the cops he started some stuff with me. But he probably did Golden Gloves in Juarez or something and would kick my arse.
That just really pissed me off, those dogs don’t do any harm, they are just happy to be in the backyard and able to run around and frolick after being in the house all day.
I have a pellet pistol and can fire from a hidden location, one of those in the butt might send a message. Or get the cops called on me. No, I don’t want to do anything aggressive, I’ll take the high road on this.
