Worst Acting in a Major Movie (Name your examples)
Self | June 26, 2011 | PJ-Comix

Posted on 06/26/2011 5:56:22 PM PDT by PJ-Comix

I was just watching the original "True Grit" starring John Wayne. Yes, he deserved his Oscar for the role of Rooster Cogburn but opposite him was someone who played his part horribly. I am talking about Glenn Campbell as the Texas Ranger. Sheesh! Talk about stilted delivery. Really bad. Another example of bad acting was also in a John Wayne movie---"The Alamo." It was Frankie Avalon as Smitty who was supposed to be a young Tennessee frontiersman. I like Frankie Avalon in the beach flicks but, let's face it, he was waaay too urban to be believable in the role of Smitty. Whenever I see "The Alamo," it is impossible to forget that this is just a movie because of Frankie Avalon's completely unconvincing acting.

There are many other major movies with examples of really horrible acting. I cited a couple of such examples, so please list yours.

Kevin Costner as Robin Hood was pretty awful.

That is total sacrilege. I’m calling the mods. Humphrey Bogart was great in Casablanca. The thought of anyone else in the roll makes me cringe.

My son still talks about Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys ... he was a great little weirdo. What happened?

I think he’s trying to be funny. It often doesn’t work for me either.

Stallone in anything, he should have stuck with blue movies.

Stallone was excellent in "Paradise Alley", although Armond Assante' made it worth watching.

You followed the rules, bravo.

I was wondering when I saw Water World if it would have been a better movie if the Kevin Costner role had been played by someone with a faint touch of charisma and acting ability.

I think it might have been.

James Mason played Brutus. (I know a little bit about movies — which is one reason why I deplore Hugh Hewitt. )

Humphrey Bogart in “Casablanca.” He really was terribly stiff and one-note.

Blasphemer!!!! You take that back right now!!!!!

I don't know, maybe you're right. Perhaps the story is enough to cover a good many ills.

I didn’t like that movie at first, because I didn’t get the serious acting with a comedfic plot.

Once I got it, I loved it.

Harrison ford in Firewall. He was fat and waxy and used the USPS to mail in his performance.

Just watched A Beautiful Mind again and, well, sorry, but Russell Crowe was bad in it. I read somewhere that Tom Hanks was considered for the part.

It would have been a much better movie with Hanks, who seems to be an actor who can make you care about his character no matter how weird.

Andie MacDowell may not have acted well in “Green Card” but her buttocks performed flawlessly.

Sondra Locke in The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Gauntlet, Bronco Billy, Any Which Way You Can, Sudden Impact. UGH

And we have a winner! I don' know how one talentless actor can be cast in so many movies, even if they are sleeping with the director.

I agree about Forbidden Planet. I was almost afraid to re-watch it but it does hold up extremely well.

What about Sofia Coppolla in Godfather 3.

I can NOT believe it took 137 responses to get the correct answer. As bad as she was at acting, she is one hell of a director.

If you took Val Kilmer’s “Doc Holliday” out of “Tombstone” it would have been a boring film.

So true. Almost every one of his lines is a quotable classic. "Why, Johnny! You look like someone just walked over your grave!"
