A shooting call in Roanoke Rapids Thursday night turned out to be accidentally self-inflicted, authorities said.
Capt. Andy Jackson, head of investigations for the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, said at 10:43 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 100 block of Madison Street in reference to a victim who had been shot.
When officers arrived, the victim said he was shot walking down the back alley between Madison and Monroe Street by an unknown subject he hadnt seen, Jackson said.
Det. Corey Dixon was called to the scene to investigate, Jackson said, and after looking into the shooting, Dixon was able to get the victim, Wade Anthony Gray, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, to admit hed inflicted the wound on himself.
He heard some fireworks go off and hit the panic button, Jackson said. He shot himself in the leg going for his gun.
Gray is being treated in the Halifax Regional Medical Center, Jackson added. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The investigation is continuing.
Just call him Plaxico and send him on his way.
Perhaps he works for the DEA.
Well, as I tell my students, “If you are nice about it, I won’t tell your mother you are playing with guns when you are away from her home.”
I do feel a tad sorry for that man. A self inflicted wound hurts as much as any other. And the comments from ones shooting buddies will only add to the pain.
Too bad the fellow didn't have his gun in his waistband, he could have qualified for a Mangled Genitals ping...
