Hey all, I'm looking into getting an AR15, but am totally overwhelmed by all the choices. What I want is something that's reliable, and has a rifle length barrel. Cheaper is better. I am not looking into getting a crazy customizable hyper-accurate super gun. Just a plinker. I've seen the Olympic Arms plinker, looked kinda rough.
Don’t splurge on the gun, the optics is where the money comes in.
Bushmaster...good quality, good prices. I added a red-dot sight to my basic A2 version, and I’m good for anything I want to ‘touch’. Great all purpose long gun.
Recommend you go to AR15.com
Get a real gun. Any AK-47 will outlast the Matty matel, and the 7.62X39 is a better defense round.
Oh, one more thing - Ak-47 guns and ammo are cheaper, more reliable, and did I mention cheaper?
Can’t go wrong with Stag or Rock River. Not the cheapest but they have great medium price range offerings.
Go with Rock River, you will be happy.
As far as the optics comment by others, I regularly out shoot competitors shooting high dollar optics with a fixed 6X scope that sold for $69.00.
Get a good AR, play with the scopes later!!!
Go with something mil-spec - Colt 6920, LMT Defender, Daniel Defense, LaRue, or an upper / lower combo from BraveCompany USA. These guns will stand up to hard use.
Avoid the hobbiest guns - Bushmaster, Rock River, DPMS, etc.
First, goto AR15.com and learn more than you ever wanted to know about AR’s. Then seriously consider building your own. It is not that hard. And, it’s a good way to get a very affordable one that you have a real stake in. I got a lot of my parts fron delton.com. They are good people.
Bushmaster ....
Quite reliable, and usually available at a better price than the AR-15's. Not bad for plinking, although I'm in the east where we don't plink from a quarter mile away. The one downside to the Mini-14 is accuracy is not that great beyond 100 yards or so. Even at 100 yards, putting a grouping within a 4 to 6 inch circle is about the best you'll do. That's a limitation of the design, not the shooter.
where can you get a good ak 47
Rock River Arms LAR-15 Elite Operator 2...Now, this is a carbine, but Rock River also offers rifle length models...
From rbprecison.com; $950 shipped...Good people, great prices, fast service...
Rock River is hard to beat...Excellent quality, great value for the price, very reliable and accurate...You can spend more if you like for the higher end ARs, but Rock River will meet the needs of 99% of the AR shooters out there...
I shoot RRA almost exclusively...All around great combo in an AR
I have a bushmaster for years. Thousands of rounds no issues.
I got a High Standard for $750 http://www.gunblast.com/HighStandard-AR15.htm
It’s accurate and its made in TX!
I also have a bushmaster and have had no problems. I’ve been looking at the sig’s though. Man are they pretty
I love my Mini-14. Shot is this weekend in a three gun. Wood furniture with leather sling. Looks good and shoots great.
I had one.
At the time they were not chroming the receiver and barrel.
For a gas impingement that is a must.
They are very hard to keep clean.
You can go through 10 30rd mags in no time.
Also check break in procedures.
Check into piston types as they run a lot cooler but they are a shade less accurate.
