You can buy trisodium phosphate from Lowes as well for about $10 a 4 lb box. Does a great job on the clothes. About a tablespoon and a half a load.
“tablespoon & 1/2 per clothes load”
...about how much per dishwasher load?
In our local Lowes the fake TSP is in an orange or yellow box, on the eye-level shelf. The real TSP is in the red box, and up on the highest shelf, where you have to get a clerk to go up the ladder to get it. I bought all 4 boxes they had on the shelf.
I also buy my dishwasher detergent at a janitorial supply. "Professionals" are exempt from the no-phosphate policy. Full phosphate Cascade is readily available at janitorial and/or restaurant supply stores.
Get Sodium Tripolyphosphate at The Chemical Store - I put in one Electrosol tab and fill the rest of the cup with it in my dishwasher. Works like a charm. And a small amount in the washing machine - about 2-3 tablespoons does it. TSP is not so good.
It says it is poisonous. Can it be used in hand dishwashing soap?
I bought a $10 box of trisodium phosphate from Lowes and tried it on dishes that had dried on egg yolk and gravy. These were dishes I would have had to spend time prewashing. I loaded them in the dish washer put in a teaspoon of TSP and my dishes came out sparkling clean. It was the best $10s I have spent in the matter of time saved, water use and energy used on extra hot water used for prewashing dishes.
