First there was fried Coca-Cola, then fried beer. The latest liquid to get battered? Kool-Aid.

The deep-fried fruit punch snacks are the brainchild of fair food chef Charlie ("Chicken") Boghosian, who also sells crispy fried Klondike Bars, Girl Scout Thin Mints cookies and Pop Tarts...

Well, I'd already heard of deep-fried Coca-Cola, so I guess this isn't really a stretch. All the same, I'll probably stick to my beloved tenderloin sammiches and the occasional frozen chocolate-covered banana, when I hit the fair.

BTW, had to shorten to original title (wouldn't fit) - "Deep fried Kool-Aid is fair food sensation; Fried fruit punch described as a fruity, tangy donut."

“... and the occasional frozen chocolate-covered bananas...”

I have never tried one of those. Are they good?

If they ever figure out how to keep it on the stick, I’ll be there for the deep fried pork lard.

Yup, as crazy as it sounds, there is deep-fried Coke and Pepsi at some fairs. They take a basic fry batter (elephant ear, donut, whatever) and add a liberal dose of soft drink syrup before dumping it into the fryer. Some places top the fried goodies with more syrup.

I’ll stick to my pork tenderloin sammies. :-)

All I want is an italian sausage sangwich, french fries with salt an vinegar and apple dumplings with vanilla ice cream.

Have never heard of such a thing. I’m going to have to look up how one fries liquid. I’m sticking with the tried and true, good ol’ cotton candy.

They both sound pretty good. I guess they could use the frozen syrup too and make something like a baked Alaska with it.

Personally, I love ‘em. Bananas are my favorite anyway, and a little chocolate and nuts never hurt anything, LOL.

Besides, since they’re frozen, they can be kind of refreshing on a hot day at the fair/amusement park. :-)

Thanks for explaining how it’s done. I think I’ll skip that, uh, delicacy.

It does boggle the mind. Fairground food here is usually those curly fries - I’m trying to think what else that might be regional... maybe deep-fried coffee and sugar-coated cigarettes.

Throw a bunch of grilled peppers and onion on the sandwich and I’m in! :-)

Chicken-fried bacon and cream gravy!
