Bristol Palin, the single mom and reality TV star whose mother is toying with a run for the White House, will sign copies of her memoir at the Mall of America, officials from the Bloomington shopping center said Monday.

Palin, 20, will appear from 6 to 8 p.m. June 29 at the mall's rotunda, bringing her back to the Twin Cites, where her family burst onto the national scene when her mother, Sarah Palin, accepted the No. 2 spot on the Republican Party's presidential ticket during the 2008 national convention in St. Paul.

Bristol Palin's book, "Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far," co-written with Nancy French, is scheduled for publication by William Morrow this week.

oh im sure that entered into it. but IMO it was an attempt to get her story out before the Levi/leftwing book hits in the fall.

>>well she could have had an abortion like Barry goldwater’s daughters had....<<

I think I have already dealt with that non sequitur. Twice, by my count (maybe 3 times, I don’t like to go back and re-read my posts).

I love Sarah Palin. I think her family has been horribly mistreated by the press. But I agree with those who question why anyone would by Bristol’s book. She’s a teen who got pregnant just like a lot of other teens who made wrong choices. There is nothing book-worthy about that. She isn’t shedding light on any unknown problem. She has no life experience yet to write about. This is the bad side of the Palins. As much as I love and admire Sarah, the family does cash in on her fame.

As long as the unwed (or, as of a day or two ago, wed-but-liberal) mother is conservative/Christian, then they have a right to life and their babies should be celebrated.

But if their mothers are liberal, or another religion, their mothers should abort them.

I read those sentiments twice on a FR thread yesterday. Twice. From two different posters. I couldn’t respond because I was mobile, but I was so disgusted.

Only one single person disagreed.

FR is no longer pro-life by any reasonable measure if that sort of posting to go on unchallenged.

Hypocrites? Yeah, in spades.

Consistent? Not by any measure.

>>Your general belief seems to be that Bristol’s behavior reflects negatively on the Governor, Correct?<<

The converse. The fact she is Gov. Palin’s daughter bestows upon her no special exemption from what should be societal shame. Much less celebration for her decision for what is, in general, a bad decision for the child and society.

Single parenthood is bad. Bad for the person, bad for the child, bad for society. There should be great shame (and perhaps adoption) in the offing, not book signings and celebration.

Choosing to have the child is up there with choosing not to rob a bank (OK, a higher moral imperative) — choosing to do the right thing in a bad situation doesn’t elevate the decision. It just is doing the right thing.

It doesn’t undo the bad decision.

No one seems to be willing to answer my question: was this not Gov. Palin’s daughter would we be feting her?

then you need to stop posting the same crap over and over again. bristol had 4 choices.

1) get an abortion
2) marry the father
3) have the baby
4) put the baby up for adoption

She ruled out the first choice thank god. she tried the second choice twice. Levi run out on her twice. She choose to have and keep the baby because she and her family were able to support the child. since having the child Bristol has worked her butt off from being Dentist assistant, to DWTs, to giving speeches, making commercials and now writing a book and doing a reality TV show to provide for her child.

she has not forced the child off on her parents, she has not asked another man to support her child. she has shown her ability to be a great mother and provider for her child. she did not sign up for Gov benefits. She has shouldered the responsibility of motherhood and has provided for her child than 95% of the USA population has provided for their children and still that isn't good enough for you for some reason.

Do you think having a deadbeat father in his daily life who shows no maturity would have been better than Bristol deciding to take personal responsibility for her child?

I agree. I was not one of those posters nor would I ever suggest such a thing. I agree that is disgusting and is an agenda-driven concept — and NOT pro-life.

I am trying to help use not be like our foes — we either have principles or we simply have agendas (as I said upthread). If we wouldn’t fete Sheila Jackson-Lee’s single daughter then we should be not do so in this case.

She probably wants to tell the story before Levi’s book comes out.

She made perhaps the best decision for her initial bad decision.

That isn’t worth celebrating.

Sadly in our society today most young women never make that decision. they either abort the child, or go on the government dole.

So unless you like how society is today, you are damn right we should be celebrating bristol’s choice. she is showing you don't need the government, that a baby is not a mistake nor a punishment and that abortion is never the answer.

It is the fact that we never celebrated these young teen mothers before that have caused in some large part the present society we have in this country. Life and success are always worthy of celebrating.

When you are a leading advocate for abstinence and life on the national stage, yet also a single mom, then it would be almost impossible to NOT publish your story for that audience.

The book title is “Not Afraid of life”, get it?
The book, written by a mother who is our most well known national abstinence spokeswoman, and the mother of the second most famous, non-aborted child, and the daughter of America’s most famous pro-life mom, has written a book for her audience of young females about what has transpired in the last three years, and the effect it had on her, and her message to them, today.

When you are 20, and a combination of abstinence leader, famous for not having an abortion, yet also the most famous young single mom in America, all at the same time, then there is a book length story that you need to share with your audience of young girls that you are striving to lead to abstinence, and to becoming pro-life, they have questions that need to be answered.

My personal guess is that the book will be a recommend for conservatives.

Thanks for helping me help people face up to the difference between a principle and ab agenda.

I do not do this lightly and I am not a gadfly. Nor do I begrudge anyone their admiration for Gov. Palin and/or her family.

But, like free speech, it is the even-handed application of a principle despite political or personal feeling that is the test.

Are “we” (Conservatives) better? I would like to think we are.

Well, as far as baby mamas are concerned, maybe people have complicated feelings.

My own view is that these girls should give their babies up for adoption. It is not a good thing that so many girls nowadays want to be single mothers.

So on the one hand, we don’t want to see abortions. On the other hand, we don’t want single motherhood either.

I’ve heard that there are millions of couples who want to adopt children. I think it would be good to connect the unwed mothers up with those who want to adopt.

Back in the old days, girls traditionally gave their babies up for adoption. Many today don’t like that the social pressures in the old days caused many to do that, but the fact is, both the babies and the unwed mothers had better lives when adoption was more common.

Nowadays, most of these baby mamas and their children have very bad lives. And we subsidize it with welfare and other public assistance programs.
