HAWTHORNE, Fla. -- A 74-year-old man attacked by pit bulls Friday morning had his right arm amputated, his left arm partially amputated and suffered severe facial injuries, Putnam County deputies said. Deputies were called to the 200 block of Old Hawthorne Road in Hawthorne about 11 a.m. and found Roy McSweeney severely injured. McSweeney was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville and was in surgery Friday afternoon. His condition was not available. Investigators said the two dogs responsible for the attack belonged to McSweeney's neighbor.
They said the owner of the dogs gave both of them to authorities, and the pit bulls were euthanized and taken to the Putnam County Health Department to be tested for rabies.
Deputies said no further details could be released. .
When you *do* get a dog, try and find something she won’t instantly slice and dice, please...:)
He had a partner, care giver, but obviously there was a big failure in terms of the provider giving appropriate care. I figured from reading the article they did the best they could given their ages.
According to the original article, the dogs were being held for observation, the elderly man did not want them euthanized. It is so hard on the elderly to lose their independence and control over the most basic needs and desires of their lives. I have seen it with my own family members.
I have tried to find out what happened later in the case but without success.
I guess you could say that...... Because of these morons I have to deal with eviction. It’s MY house, my property. I feel like going over there when they are gone, having animal control remove the dogs and change the locks, but I can’t. I have to go through the legal process and hope that in the meantime the dogs don’t do damage or hurt someone. My insurance policy strictly excludes these dogs and it is in the lease that they signed:
AKITA, BOXER, BULL TERRIER, BULLMASTIFF, CHOW CHOW, DOBERMAN PINSCHER, GERMAN SHEPHERD, GIANT SCHANUZER, MASTIFF, NEOPOLITAN MASTIFF, OVTCHARKA, PRESA CANARIO, PIT BULL, RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK, ROTTWEILLER, WOLF OR WOLF HYBRID OR ANY MIX OF THE ABOVE BREEDS.
I seriously don’t understand why some are not on the list and why some are. Giant Schnauzer? I don’t know what they base their decision on but we signed knowing that was there. I don’t want a big dog in my rentals. Not only for liability reasons but a big dog can do more damage. They already tore up all the lattice around the enclosed garden area. Their deposit will cover the damage and they sure aren’t getting any of their deposit back. They just sealed the deal on that. Guess they are out 1700.00. Hope the dogs were worth it and they will never find a nice place, if any place down here that will rent to them with those 2 dogs. NEVER!!! 3 kids and 2 Pit Bulls.... LOL! Good luck to them, they will need it.
She’s all hiss and no slash for the most part these days. I should call her Miss Hissy Swipe-at-ya.
She very much earned her name when we first took her in, but she has come a long way since then. She doesn’t draw blood anymore when she swats or nips. She has learned to appreciate pets, brushes, and tummy rubs. And she has become much more social with the other cats.
I used to put out Feliway, but when it ran out, she’d revert. So I stopped using it, and with some soft words and patience, she learned to be nicer. She’s doing very well.
Never fear, my pets are safe with me.
LOL!
That’s what mine looks like, only mine is open sights.
“The vicious dogs broke out of their cages and attacked Roy McSweeney, 74, while he was doing yard work at his home in Hawthorne Friday morning.
Doctors amputated the great-grandfather’s right arm and are trying to reattach his left arm.
“He is disabled and sometimes used a scooter to get around. The dogs hurt him pretty bad,” Roderick Flynn, a volunteer firefighter who was at the gruesome scene, told WTEV.
Sorry I’m late to the party.

Kick in the door and tazer the children! It’s for the children!!!!
People who make excuses for government intrusion into our lives tend to be all for government interfering in ‘some other guys’ life instead of their own.
Yeah, confiscating and forcibly euthanizing animals by government fiat doesn’t sound conservative to me either.
According to New York state my previous cat [d. 1999] was an ‘illegal F1 feral’ and if she’d been recognized as what she was the state would have confiscated her, euthanized her and then billed me for the privilege of having the state kill my pet.
And then charge me for the crime of having a cat give birth to domestic bobcat crossbreeds on my back porch.
All of this in the name of protecting the populace from the menace of a ‘dangerous feral animal’.
The only danger this cat posed was if you were a mouse or bird.
Somebody once said something about a slippery slope.

You could almost feel the spittle flying from the monitor.
And then he decided to follow in pissants shoes.

Hush now, don’t joggle my elbow.
I’m reconfiguring my elaborate series of proxy routers that allow me to fool the system and post while banned.
Eaker! There you are, stranger. Nice to see you.
Thanks. I really like Lazlo’s graphic too.
