The Black mayor finally succumbed to the pressure and began handing out large box fans in the Black community. Well, those weren't enough and the cry for AC's went out...the city began buying and giving away air conditioners in the Black community.
This quietened things down for a month or two until the power company started shutting down electrical service for non-payment to many of the people who received the free AC's. The Blacks complained that the city knew they couldn't affort the electricity when they handed out the AC's.(What were they thinking attitude)
I think the final solution was for the power company to 'forgive' 50% of the bill and the city would pay the other 50%.
I think the city has now designated some city buildings as 'cooling centers.' The complaint now is, "how does the city expect me to get there."
It never ends.
I’m just amazed that it was never hot before. Who knew that summer and warm weather is a recent event?
I’d be interested to know who was selling the air conditioners.
It’s just a variation of the affordable housing scam, want a house and can’t afford it.... just call Freddy & Fannie.
Can’t pay the mortgage???? You know the rest.
I’m so happy that I got out of Mobile. I just do not miss Sam or his folks. If I could just get rid of that house, I would have a clean break. It was a good place to live at one time, long ago...
