HOQUIAM, Wash. – Police say a man was carrying a dead weasel when he burst into an apartment and assaulted a man in Washington state.

The victim asked, "Why are you carrying a weasel?" Police said the attacker answered, "It's not a weasel, it's a marten," then punched him in the nose and fled.

I enjoyed Idaho. Went to school up there in Nampa.

Had a chance to relocate to the environs around Boise back a few years ago, but couldn’t stand the thought of leaving California, only to find myself living amidst a horde of HOA-loving, status-symbol fixated lib-transplants absorbed in trying to make Idaho into California II.

They’d already trampled the quite little rural community of Eagle, and turned it into a bloc of gated communities that they now bill as “The Napa Valley of Idaho.”

Nampa was a long hike for me, too. I drove in from Anaheim 917 miles away. I’d usually start in the early morning between midnight and 4am, and arrive in the afternoon, but there were a couple of trips where I left in the afternoon, and did most of the trip at night, ‘cuz it was quicker that way. My personal best was 12.5 hours.

Milling down an empty highway at 100mph+ in the pre-dawn darkness.

A fine-tuned old V-8 singing its heart out through a pair of glass-packed pipes dumped at the rear axle.

A set of 9.5 x 16.5 D-rated bias-plys adding in their lonesome howl.

Idaho Hwy 51/Nevada 225 down through the Owyhees past Wild Horse Reservoir into Elko.

Beautiful and rugged land all down through there.
