(Reuters) - Light up the grill for July 4 and get six months in jail under stringent new burn rules imposed by one Texas county in response to a devastating and record-breaking drought.
An effort to stem wildfires, which have already taken out millions of acres of ranch land here, has encroached on the unofficial Texas pastime of backyard grilling -- as much a part of Texas as football and pick-up trucks.

Ordinarilly I’d say FUgummint ... but if there’s so much tinder around ... why chance it
We’ve lost Texas.
They could always use an electric BBQ, and not have the oven roasted ribs (as proffered in the article). Still I have mixed feelings over the subject in any event.
can I still shoot my fireworks?
Guadalupe County, east of San Antonio, I'm not from Texas, liberal county, right?
1 county, not the entire state. Just like a sea of Republicans, you will definitely meet a group of super RINOS.
Nope, adds to globalwarming...
How many brush fires have been started by outdoor grilling in that county?
How many brush fires have been started by outdoor grilling in that county?
Agreed. That was how I felt initially as well. And if they make the person who starts the hypothetical fire pay with all their assets for the time and resources that started said fire, it might mitigate the “FUgummint” sentiment, at least for me.
Tough call, on the one hand, you can’t necessarilly control an accidentally started fire, and it can do more damage than you can repair, in minutes. On the other, you have private property rights.
Can you grill on the 5th?
“And if they make the person who starts the hypothetical fire pay with all their assets for the time and resources that started said fire”
was meant to say:
“And if they make the person who starts the hypothetical fire pay [for it to be extinguished] with all their assets for the time and resources that [are necessary] [since they] started said fire.”
It seemed a little vague when I reread it.
Thanks George!
Yup, but no meat, adds to globalwarming..:=)
Don't know, but I'd say since Guadalupe County is a liberal bastion, a lot of 0bama voters were BBQing right under tinder trees...
what the..............?
no BBQ in Texas?
Isn’t that another reason to secede?
If I know Texans, I’m pretty sure how I know this ban will be received.
Ping!
