While I agree with your sentiment, it is my understanding that Sarah Palin is not an announced candidate and therefore is not subject to Secret Service protection at this time.
Nevertheless, it is a death threat if she were to announce, and therefore in that circumstance this guy should be investigated up the wazoo. Just IMHO.
Right now the only recourse we have is alert local LEOs and our prayers for her.

I don't know what has happened in the last 40 years but it used to be that if you insulted a woman, you'd get punched, shunned and news articles on the insulter's cowardice. While I could go for all three; what happened to people having class? I always open a door for woman and 99% say thank you, others glare at me because apparently, chivalry is a sign of a chauvinistic pig.
I don't watch the shout shows for that very reason, rarely do they address the issue at hand, no, they have to insult the other person but they seem to only attack their opponent's position tangentially.

If only this was testable. If we could get a pundit everyone knows and then pick a lefty loser woman and make the kind of comments made to Palin and watch how many pundits and politicians eager to get in front of the camera to express their outrage. Then wait a month or so and make the exact same remarks about a right winner woman and see the hypocrisy.
