My late brother was the coin collecter in the family. When he passed in 1980 and then when my Dad passed in 2005, my sister was handed (by me) all of the coin collections.
So, she has a wonderful collection that includes all of the 1909’s.....
Yes and no. A contract can specify the form of payment. If it doesn't, or if there is no contract, a debt is discharged by tender of payment. If the tender is not accepted, the debt is still discharged.

Seems the issue isn’t that he paid in pennies, it’s that he made a mess & ruckus in the process.
One thing to set a box of pennies on the counter.
Another to open the box and dump them all over the counter, ranting about how unfair XYZ is.
I would fight this citation all the way; this is outrageous.
Didn’t Larry Flynt try to pay off a fine to the Supreme Court in pennies in the Falwell case?
Your welcome ;o)
I had a balance of 30 bucks on my car insurance one year. I went in with 3 tens and the agent asked for a check or money order. I told her that it was printed right on the bill by the treasury that they were legal tender for all debts and that if she refused the cash I wanted a signed statement that she wasn't taking my legal payment.
I found another agent the next day -- good thing too because that policy was canceled.
But he's a Dr. of the town, doncha know that?, too bad, can't take a check, need cash.
He left in a big huff, and came back with about $350 in $1 dollar bills. Well, he had to stand there while I counted out VERY, VERY,very, slowing. Pissed him off again. lol. I love Gotcha moments.
