A Turkish woman set fire to a man in a mosque in southern Germany on Saturday. She says she acted out of revenge after the man raped her.

The 36-year-old poured petrol over the 38-year-old man in a mosque in the city of Reutlingen, in Baden-Württemberg, before setting him alight. The woman was taken into custody on Sunday, on charges of attempted murder, according to the state prosecutors office and the police.

On Saturday afternoon, according to the police, the woman’s husband and the later victim got into a fight in a room in the mosque. People attending the mosque tried to separate the two men, but were unsuccessful.

The woman then poured petrol from a canister she had brought with her and set him on fire.

Interesting that women will probably change Islam in the long run as they finally get tired of being treated like chattel and demand their men move into the modern world mentally

“Good for her” unless the guy was innocent.

If she had tried to proper routes for justice and received no consideration, I might have some sympathy. But we can’t just start allowing people to light alleged rapists or alleged anything on fire with no right of defense.

I’m not saying he’s innocent, I don’t know.

I generally believe in the rule of law. However, in a system in which the penalty for being raped can be worse than that for attempted murder, I have complete sympathy for her choice. It's hard to think of this as a false accusation; she knew the penalty when she solved the problem, and I doubt that level of commitment would be faked.
