(My title) It's now YOUR fault that Obama is percieved as an idiot.(Chicago Tribune Opinion Article)
Chicago Trib ^ | 5/27/11 | Meghan Dumb

Excerpt...) But consider this: It's not that Obama can't speak clearly. It's that he employs the intellectual stammer. Not to be confused with a stutter, which the president decidedly does not have, the intellectual stammer signals a brain that is moving so fast that the mouth can't keep up. The stammer is commonly found among university professors, characters in Woody Allen movies and public thinkers of the sort that might appear on C-SPAN but not CNN. If you're a member or a fan of that subset, chances are the president's stammer doesn't bother you; in fact, you might even love him for it (he sounds just like your grad school roommate, especially when he drank too much Scotch whisky and attempted to expound on the Hegelian dialectic!).

I use the intellectual blank stare!

You think Obama also employs the "intellectual breaking wind-when-nervous" tactic?

Note that there are three inherent flaws in the Hegelian Dialectic.

1. Any side that has a position of not wanting something, always loses. The synthesis always forces the side that wants nothing/opposes doing something, to have to accept a change that requires them to accept doing something. Therefore the side that always wnats to do something, wins, because the synthesis always moves in their direction, even if it’s a little bit.

2. The Dialectic process can be manipulate and corrupted because the side wanting to do something different, can state such an extreme antithesis position, that the synthesis position turns out to be the actual goal position of the antithesis position all along.

3. The Dialectic process can be manipulated and corrupted because the Dialectic process can be employed repeatedly - incrementally - over time and just keep shifting things more and more as each synthesis position becomes more extreme. The synthesis position, btw, becomes the “new” thesis position (ie the new status quo) in later uses of the Dialectic.

The Delphi technique is one such way the Dialectic is used in a corrupt and manipulating fashion.

AS with those who do not remember what year it is, those who stammer tend to have mental preoccupation with things that they know can not be publicly stated in a manner they believe acceptable to others. Malignant narcissism.

I am no fan of Palin, but at least she demonstrates belief and confidence in her views, with no fear or hesitation in sharing them publicly when speaking.

These are just observations, not facts.

And when he screws it up in writing (May 25, 2008), do they call it the intellectual skitter?

Oh, I remember her now...the Columbia MFAer. The girl with all the wit and wisdom of stewed prunes. Which, incidentally, she should try because her writing smacks of someone who has an acute case of physical constipation who then spews forth written diarrhea. MFA - yes, it really does stand for those bad words.

It's that he employs the intellectual stammer.

Bet poor old Megan's arm is dirty up to her elbow after having to reach way down in her liberal pile of crap to pull that statement out.

Media then: "Obama does not sound like an idiot. He's a supergenius!"

Media now: "Fine, Obama sounds like a moron, but it's only because he's a supergenius!"

People who are trying to BS their way by are the ones who stammer. Intellectual my patootie. Though, I should say, I think I’m an intellectual, and I stammer sometimes.

Occasionally, I actually listen to what he’s saying to try to discover this brilliance I keep hearing about. The other day he was commenting on something, the Palestinian problem or something, so I listened as intently as I could. After about 15 minutes, I couldn’t take it anymore. It just seems to me that all he ever does is restate the obvious. He deftly presents all sides of a problem and then leaves it hanging in mid air acting as though he presented a solution.

“...the intellectual stammer signals a brain that is moving so fast that the mouth can't keep up.”

That is a howling LIE!

If you ARE intelligent, you know how to make yourself understood, period!

Winston Churchill routinely growled out the best speeches ever uttered in the English language. He didn't stutter, stammer or marble mouth ... he took his time and made himself clear from beginning to end.

JFK had a pronounced back bay accent that NEVER got in his way.

Harry Truman was hardly the polished and urbane speaker compared to others, but no one doubted his meaning.

“O” is a living, breathing piece of s^%$ who had the US Presidency literally HANDED to him. He doesn't even have the sense or the ability to do the very least it would require to successfully front it off convincingly and MIME his predecessors!

All these years of watching game shows and it was the players that the buzzer sounded without an answer that were the smart ones.

So unfair that the slow witted ones got all the money but the players with the superfast brains got little.

True enough. And a good part of how we got to where we are today. Compromising between not damaging the Constitution and damaging it a bunch results in damaging it just a little bit. Each time.

The way to fight this is to come up with a counter antithesis.

One good example is the way the “gun control” issue has played out in recent years. One side wants tighter gun controls, the other calls not for keeping the controls as they are but for loosening them. The compromise is the status quo, which means things at least don’t get any worse.

Actually, the anti-gun control people have been winning this one.

To take this to a more general level, we need to not just resist new government intrusion on our freedoms, we have to fight to roll existing ones back.

I sometimes suffer from something like what she’s talking about.

I teach seminars occasionally that last for several days. Sometimes I’m thinking several sentences ahead of where I’m talking at the moment, and I scramble sentences. Particularly towards the end of the day when I’m tired.

Sometimes I “hear” what I say and correct myself. Sometimes I just get confused looks from the students and have to ask them what idiotic thing I just said.
