I just have to vent to someone - I'm so angry!!!! I am doing a Masters in Counseling and currently have a class in Marriage and Family issues. The text is revoltingly biased - in which white, Christian, heterosexual males are usually to blame for everything. This particular unit is on "diverse" types of families - including gay, which the book portrays and just as good, if not better than heterosexual 2-parent families for children. I am so pissed off at the dismissive attitude the authors take toward those who have legitimate concerns about the long -term effects on children, referring to them as "heterosexist" and actually making such ludicrous statements as this: "The need for clarification of language is related to the generally accepted rigid, narrow, and erroneous construction of gender and sexual identity as biologically determined. The dominant culture holds the belief that biological sex determines gender identity, gender identity determines gender role, and gender role determines sexual orientation." How do you respond to such insanity and arrogance??
So I'm writing about the importance of mothers and fathers in childrens' lives and am finding that it's damned hard to find scholarly articles stating that two parents are important - it's amazing!! I have found some articles, but they are surprisingly few. Most current scholarship seems to indicate that there's no difference psychologically, emotionally or developmentally between kids raised by heterosexual parents and gay parents. I find this very hard to believe, and very suspicious about how much the researcher's political views figured into the outcomes. If anyone knows of any devastating and scholarly studies about this I would really appreciate it!!! Man, I do hate this text.
Yes, that’s a very good idea. I like Robin of Berkeley and feel a connection with her, as a former Berkeley leftist myself, who grew up and woke up...I should write to her and see what her experiences are as a therapist in the belly of the beast in Berserkeley. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Debby. My name is Susan and I am also a mad mom, but actually I let God take care of the anger, and I enjoy life to the fullest. I try to help open up people’s eyes. It is frustrating, but then I just think of all the so called “radicals” who never went along with the flow, and how difficult they had it, and I do laugh quite a bit and thank God for what I have. Ideas and knowledge are exhilarating and I never give up. Trait of my wonderful mother and father!!
McGoldrick’s PhD is honorary, not earned.
...and it makes their little heads explode when its done to them...;)
That makes this most important game in life FUN!
