I saw him over the weekend saying this in an interview. He looked maniacal. Think he’s been hit in the head once too often.

Maybe he's on to something. Those who have seen Raiders fans will know what I mean. Going to the games leaves them less time for drive-bys.

What do you bet Rush Limbaugh quotes Lewis and then Morning Joe will blame Rush for saying it and being racist?

He says if there is no football, crime will increase across the country Yeah, the players won't have anything to do. No practice during the week, no games on the weekend. They'll be bored.

Seems to me a logical supposition. I am sure there are hundreds of thousands of criminals who are also avid NFL fans. The NFL broadcasts 12-15 hours of games each week (not overlapping). I doubt the criminal fans would utilize that time knitting otherwise.
This is not to say it is smart to state this publicly. Most people look at it as bomb throwing related to union negotiations, which it probably is. But it is still possible to make a stupid statement that is also true.

He says if there is no football, crime will increase across the country. "Damn straight," he said. "I'm gonna keep my crib even if I have to knock over 500 liquor stores."

According to his theory, the crime rates should increase in the off season. That may be true, but if you remove NFL players from the statistical population, the crime rates don’t change.
