I can only assume that he doesn't believe in a Jewish right of return to Jordan or Biblical geography.

Look. I'm Jewish (more than most, too) and even I don't believe in some Biblical right of return. That's just not the way the world works. But virtually no one was living in the "Holy Land" according to Mark Twain's apolitical account. Jews ("Zionists") came along and decided to by up the land their from the Turks who were absentee owners there, and thought they were taking the Jews to the cleaners. These Jews continued to buy land when Britain took over; and they still try now that Israel is in charge. The Arabs who didn't sell or abandon their land are still there, except in cases of eminent domain takings which all governments engage in. The idea that anyone should give up what they purchased legal title to some goat herder who thinks his great-grandparents lived there sometime is counter to almost all property laws everywhere.

Two (+) points:

(God just smote my posting efforts with a lightning strike --> power outage.)

Apparently during Israel's creation, many Jews were displaced as were "Palis" (I have yet to look up the relative numbers). I suggest that it would be a bargaining chip to seek the Jewish right of return to Arab places to offset the demand from the "Palis".

(Many Christians were likely displaced from both areas (and Lebanon (which had been set up as a Christian sanctuary country ) as evidenced by the many ME immigrants to the US in the 50's and 60's.)

The Palis also claim that the land was Arab/Muslim and so rightfully belongs to them. History obviously shoots that argument down are there were countless civilizations occupying the area prior to the advent of Mad Mo'.
