On the 6th of this month I sent my 7 or 8 year old GPS72 to the Garmin service center in Kansas. It had been a reliable tool but was showing signs of failure and died on a recent trip to Fort Benning, Georgia.
I got it back today, looks and works like new again and it only cost me about 70 bucks including UPS to Garmin.
I know I could have bought a new one but I like the old beast just fine.
I just got a new Garmin Nuvi that’s the voice activated model. I LOVE it so far! I got this dash mount that kind of sticks (but it’s not sticky. kind of weird) to the dash instead me having to keep putting it back on the windshield because it’s fallen down again. :~)
“mine was made for marine navigation when 5 or 10 feet can be critical”
I’m a pilot. I have Garmins in all five of the aircraft I fly. Why is accuracy within five or ten feet critical in marine navigation?
If you ever run the ICW at night in heavy fog you’ll know.
I have so many Garmins I lost count. I do like using them. However, not a one of them has the feature I want. I want one that shows lat, long, date, time with running seconds all on one screen. I take photographs with the gps in the photo and it would be so great to have all that in one shot.
That is darn close to what I want. It doesn't show the year on the date though. It's too bad, it's so close. It almost makes me want to buy a gps 72 just for this. I said almost. I called Garmin once and asked them if they had anything that does what I want and they said no. I do have a GPSMAP 76Csx that is an updated version of the 72 but I don't think it can do this.
how do you update its software?
