A few years ago Texas was going to test teachers to see if they were up to par. I knew several female teachers and you would have thought the sky was falling. They were greatly distressed, probably from fear of flunking the test. I don’t remember if the law passed or not.

Too many teachers, unfortunately, are the dregs of the academic barrel. They went into education because they couldn’t hack anything else, and they’ve bought into modernist fads that are hostile to rigor, standards, and testing because they themselves never passed muster. I have enormous respect for people who go into teaching for the right reasons and am grateful for their service. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to share the profession with tenured deadweights.
