Too many teachers, unfortunately, are the dregs of the academic barrel. They went into education because they couldn’t hack anything else, and they’ve bought into modernist fads that are hostile to rigor, standards, and testing because they themselves never passed muster. I have enormous respect for people who go into teaching for the right reasons and am grateful for their service. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to share the profession with tenured deadweights.
I agree with your assessment. Because of low pay, offset by sort days and a short school year, those who entered the profession did it out of a “calling.” I remember my teachers and all were in it to be teachers, period.
However, one of the early Communist goals was to take over the education system and they have done that through various means - unions and tenure key to that goal. The unions now are concentrating on more money for teachers because they then pass a portion of the dues along to the friendly politicians with the same agenda. We are seeing teacher protest all over the country. They are all demanding more money for “Education.” Here in Texas the actor Tommie Lee Jones, who is from Texas, is doing commercials bemoaning the fact that Texas is number 44 in money spent per student. We all know that money is not the problem in education and that the money spent is rarely directed to activities which affect the student.
They also like to cite the teacher student ratio as if that is an important factor. When I went to school there were at least 30 students per class and that was no problem then, so why now? The key thing is that fewer students per class means more teachers to perpetuate the incestuous money laundering circle with unions and politicians. As usual the Left creates a problem with the intent of growing government in order to “solve” it.
When they start mounting protest and increasing demands we know that they are being affected by our opposition to their schemes. They are usually successful in keeping those hidden. With the popularity of conservative talk radio, conservative internet sites and Fox News we are on to them. They no longer control the information and they are trying to silence us with new proposals to control the internet and radio/television. All will be done in the name of fairness and security of course. The opposite will be true.
