I am not suprised. A friend of mine found a large diamond ring in the Atlanta Airport and turned it over to the cops. THey said to contact them after a certain amount of time passed if the owner didn’t claim it. She had paperwork, etc. She ran ads and everything. When she started contacting the police dept. to get the ring, they avoided her and would not return her calls. They finally said “We don’t have it. It was auctioned off along with other lost and found or confiscated items.” Period.

I guess from now on everyone should contact the police and give a description of what they have found. If they find the owner, then the police are welcome to contact you when the true owner is identified and you will turn it over to the correct owner.

Unfriggen believable! I am one that would turn the item over, but now I am going to have second thoughts on this one......

She should have retained a lawyer. The person who bought it at auction, if the story about its disposition is even true, is in possession of stolen goods. Anyone in the chain of custody through the auctioneer should be indicted.

I found a velvet bag filled with beautiful jewelry in the ladies room of the Ritz Carlton in Boston. I took it to the front desk immediately. Two days later I called to find out if it had been claimed. They had no record of it.

Next time I’ll know enough to keep it and make sure it gets back to the rightful owner.
